10 Reasons You Should Be Watching Haikyu!!

Haikyu!! is based on the ongoing Weekly Shounen Jump manga series by Haruichi Furudate. It’s one of the most popular sports series and the anime was recently voted the Sports Anime of the Decade over on Funimation… which is huge since Haikyu!! beat out the likes of Free and Yuri!! On Ice. The series follows the members of the Karasuno High Volleyball Club as they attempt to rebuild their team and win Nationals. It sounds like the premise of just about every other sports anime under the sun, but there is just something special about Haikyu!! that get’s your blood pumping! From the intense volleyball matches to the dynamic cast of characters to it’s compelling character drama, Haikyu!! is hands down one of my favorite anime series of all time!

Haikyu.jpg

I blame Kat Sade for my Haikyu!! obsession, because without her I would have never discovered this amazing series! This series single-handedly got me interested in the sports anime genre, I binge watch the entire series every couple of months and no matter how many time I watch this series I find my self falling even more in love with the characters and the music… and just everything! Like many in the Haikyu fandom I am eager for the premiere of the LOOOOOOOOONG awaited 4th season, Haikyu: To the Top on January 10th.

There are still a few days left before season 4 starts, which is plenty of time to catch up on the series. But, if you’re still on the fence about Haikyu!! here are 10 Reasons You Should Be Watching Haikyu!!

5 Reasons You Should Give Indie Games A Try

In recent years indie games have started to surpass their mainstream counterparts, in popularity. Once a niche genre only talked about among small circles on the internet, indie games are now regular features on most popular gaming outlets, with some even dedicating whole segments to spotlighting the rising stars of the indie gaming scene. And, what’s more, we’re starting to see even more indie games make the jump to consoles, which in the past were reserved for big budget releases. Indie games are becoming a much more viable avenue for gamers and a lot of that has to do with a marked improvement in the caliber of indie games being released. Gone are the days of hastily thrown together titles that barely offer an hour of solid gameplay and maybe a small reprieve from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Now, games like Gris, Minecraft, and the most recent viral hit, The Untitled Goose Game are proving that even with a smaller budget, indie games can also make a splash in the gaming industry.

So, with indie games killing it in the gaming industry, here are the 5 reasons you should give indie games a try!

How To Survive Junji Ito Horror in Five Easy Steps!

Hey Hey Heroes, Travelers, and Wandering NPCs, it’s October and here on Blerdy Otome we’re taking a trip into the depths with a month full of Halloween themed posts. And what better way to celebrate Halloween Month than with the Master of Horror, Junji Ito! He is one of my favorite horror mangaka, crafting some of the best horror manga out there, his works range from quirky black comedies to full on nightmare fuel, and I cannot recommend him enough if you’re looking for something deeply unsettling to read. He has a way of making the mundane terrifying, with his surreal stories and unique characters, you can’t help but get drawn into his tangled web of terror!

While rereading a few of his oneshots, I got to thinking what would I do if I found myself the unwitting victim of one of his many horrors. Hell, most of his stories either end in tragedy, death, or in the off chance he’s in a good mood, bittersweet. There really is no getting away scott free in a Junji Ito story, so I did the next best thing and crafted a list of tips that will at the very least keep you from dying a gruesome painful death… If you’re looking for something slightly more optimistic, check out How To Woo and Otome Guy in 5 Easy Stepsfor everyone else, here are five helpful tips that are sure to give you a fighting chance against, Junji Ito’s classic horrors.

The Hero That Stole My Heart: Six Reasons Bakugo Katsuki is My Favorite Hero!

I’m not really a big fan of shounen anime, years of Naruto and Bleach kind of burned me out on the genre as a whole. But, recently I’ve found myself falling in love with shounen anime again and it’s thanks in part to My Hero Academia (Boku no Hero Academia for you elitists out there)! I don’t know what it is about the series, but from the very first episode, this anime made me feel things. It brought back all the excitement and fun I had when I was new to the anime fandom, back when I was enamored with the shinobi in Naruto and the mamodos and bookkeepers of Zatch Bell!

My Hero Academia almost single-handedly restored my love of anime and it is for that reason I was moved to write about the series here on Nice Job Breaking It, Hero. But, rather than talking about the series as a whole, I’d like to shine a spotlight on my absolute favorite character: Bakugo Katsuki!

katsuki 2.png
Look at that smile! Doesn’t it just melt your heart?!

Katsuki is a character that has been very misunderstood, sure he’s a bit rough around the edges, but this hero-in-training stole my heart from the moment he was introduced! Who cares about Deku or Todoroki?! The only character I stand behind is Bakugo Katsuki, he is hands down my favorite character in the series!

[International Women’s Day 2018] My Top 5 Otome Heroines!!

Hey Hey Heroes, Travelers, and Wandering NPCs, it’s International Women’s Day! The one day out of the year when we celebrate the achievements of women throughout history… and if you ask me we should be celebrating women every day of the year and not just on March 8th, because we women are out here slaying the game everyday… all day, but, I digress. I could not let this day pass without doing something to celebrate here on Nice Job Breaking It, Hero (busy schedule be damned)!

IWD-logo.png

So, to celebrate, I’m bringing you guys a list of my top five otome game heroines! Yeah, don’t let the lack of reviews fool you, I am still pretty deep in the Otome Games fandom, and I’ve noticed that otome heroines get a lot of flack from the community as a whole. In fact, we’re often quick to make excuses for a “terrible” love interest, who treats the MC like crap, but when we get an MC with “no backbone” we immediately write her off as an affront to feminist ideals and a step backwards for all woman kind… I, myself am guilty of bashing heroines every now and again… but, seriously otome heroines get a tough break, so in order to rectify that I’m spotlighting five phenomenal otome heroines that hold it down in their respective games. It’s hard work dealing with your own personal harem, and these ladies go above and beyond the call of duty.

How To Woo an Otome Guy in Five Easy Steps!

Contrary to what some of you may believe playing otome games is hard work. Wooing 2D hotties is no easy feat, in some cases it’s harder than actually going out and getting a real lover… go figure. There’s a trick to it that can only be mastered through vigorous training and hours upon hours of in game practice. But, you dear readers are in luck! I did the hard work for you and compiled a list of five tried and true steps for anyone looking to bag the 2D hottie of their dreams! Yes, you read that right, I have taken it upon myself to write up a 5 step guide for wooing your otome game lover!

First, let me clarify, that this list is not meant to be used for wooing real life lovers… just, don’t, unless you’re cool with a little jail time. This is meant to be a tongue and cheek critique of some of the “unhealthy” methods used to woo love interests in otome games. As with any list, your mileage may vary, this is a very general list, so some tips may not work with every game or every character, just use your best judgement and of course have fun! This is meant to be fun…

I Ship It: 5 Non-Canon Couples That Totally Should Have Been Canon- BL Edition

Have you ever seen two characters that you knew were perfect for one another? Friends that have known each other since they were in diapers. Or maybe bitter rivals that hate each other, but still somehow harbor a deep respect for one another. Or perhaps, they’re the unstoppable baka duo on a high school sports team. I’m talking about those bonds forged through a deep emotional connection between two characters, the kind of bond that transcends the confines of the author’s original intent! RELATIONSHIPS BORN FROM THE HOPES AND DREAMS OF FANS… BEAUTIFUL DELUSIONS THAT GIVE A MIDDLE FINGER TO THE CANON SENSIBILITIES OF THE CREATORS!!

It’s shipping.

I’m talking about shipping…

Whether you love it or hate it, shipping is an integral part of every fandom. If two characters so much as breathe the same air as one another, I guarantee there is a person out there that ships it. But, are shippers really as crazy as folks make them out to be? Is there any basis for their pairings? Are there secret hints hidden in the source material that supports these ships? *shrugs noncommittally* I’m kind of on the fence about shipping, on one hand I do ship characters and I quite enjoy fanfiction, but, I also don’t go out of my way to ship X character with Y character while watching or reading something… that is unless the subtext is blatantly obvious, and that’s how this post was born!

There are times when the subtext is just so in your face you can’t help but connect the dots. In this post I’m going to spotlight 5 non-canon pairings that should have been canon, because… reasons!! This list is not in any particular order, I just listed the pairings in the order they came to me, which I suppose could be used to suss out which pairings are my favorite… but, it’s not. My real OTP isn’t even on this list because as much as I hate to admit it, there really isn’t any in series evidence for the pairing… not that it stops me from loving that particular ship. So, all aboard, this ship is about to set sail!!

Tag Game- Five Flaming Hotties- Otome Edition

fiveflaminghottiesnew

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL, it’s been forever since I participated in a tag game so thank you Mel ( Mel in Animeland) for including me in this one. I will admit that when I received the WordPress notification about the tag I started considering which hotties to use for this post and sadly, I had a really hard time narrowing the list down to just five hotties… I mean, I love all my baes and husbandos for different reasons so picking just five… it was a struggle. Also, I’m doing things a bit different with this post, all of my choices will be from games (heavy on the otome baes).

The rules

  • Mention the name of the blog you were tagged by, as well as the creators of this game Realweegiemidget Reviews and Thoughts All Sorts to all blogs involved and including the picture above.

Fangirl Moment: Kuroo Tetsurou

Hey Hey all you wonderful Heroes, Travelers, and Wandering NPCs! It’s Friday and that means another Fangirl Moments post, the series where I fangirl over anything and everything, from anime and manga to movies and books, everything up for grabs!

Last week, I covered the animated Netflix series, Voltron: Legendary Defender, so if you missed that post definitely check it out!! This week I’m doing things a little differently, instead of covering a form of media, I’m going to talk about a specific character and instead of doing a character analysis, I’m going to do a Top 5 list, because *whispers* I’m writing this from my work computer and my supervisor is coming into the office to shadow…. and this post is kind of time sensitive.

TetsuroKuuro

So today, November 17th is the birthday of my favorite Haikyuu captain, Kuroo “Bedhead” Tetsurou, and in honor of his b-day, I’m going to write about the Top 5 Reasons Kuroo is the Captain of My Heart!! Okay that sounded way better in my head…

My Top 10 Favorite Generation Six Pokemon

It’s been a long time since I wrote my last Pokemon Top 10 list, I originally intended to have all of these posts done before the release of Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon, but one thing lead to another… ah well, better late than never! This time around, I’ll be covering my Top Ten Gen  6 Pokémon. So let’s get this party started…

kalos

The sixth generation games brought Pokemon to the third dimension with improved 3D graphics and a whole host of interactive features! While liked all of the new advancements and features added to the Gen VI games, I wasn’t quite so impressed with all the new Pokemon that were introduced this time around… they just weren’t as memorable. In fact, I think this was the generation with the fewest new Pokemon rounding out at just 72 critters to capture.
