Blerdy Otome Monthly Recap – July 2022

Hey Blerdy Tribe! It’s the end of yet another month, so it’s time for the Blerdy Otome Monthly Recap! I kinda skipped a few months, sorry, I’ve been juggling a lot recently so sadly the site has taken a bit of a backseat. But, I’m going to be better about that in the coming weeks and months. However, some exciting things did happen recently and I wanted to share:

  • I participated in another otome roundtable with Aksys Games to discuss the AX otome announcements
  • Big social milestones–5K followers on Twitter and 1K followers on Twitch
  • Attending Otakon 2022 again as press & got to meet some really cool online folks IRL!
  • Set up partnerships with VIZ Media, Seven Seas, and TokyoPop (so more manga content, YAY!)

So, there’s been a lot of things going on behind the scenes, so as always thank you all for your support! I can’t express how much your kind words, comments, and DMs mean to me! 💖

As always there’s a lot more on the horizon in August, but before we dive into the new month, let’s take a look back at the month of July here at Blerdy Otome!

Blerdy Otome Monthly Recap – April 2022

Hey Blerdy Tribe! It’s the end of yet another month, so it’s time for the Blerdy Otome Monthly Recap! April was another great month full of more games and some exciting opportunities. I hit a big milestone over on Twitch, I partnered with digital manga publisher Futekiya, and manga publisher VIZ Media sent me a big box of manga for a collaboration!

I’ve been doing some site maintenance for the past week and it has been a huge undertaking. I’m still not finished with it, but I am happy with the current set up! The biggest updates are the Games page and the top menu. I’m also going through and editing older reviews (fixing grammar, formatting, and adding feature images) and I’m realizing I really should have done years ago. Please send me an email or a DM if you notice anything broken, it’ll be a big help.

As always there’s a lot more on the horizon in May, but before we dive into the new month, let’s take a look back at the month of April here at Blerdy Otome!

Blerdy Otome Monthly Recap – March 2022

Hey Blerdy Tribe! It’s the end of yet another month, so it’s time for the Blerdy Otome Monthly Recap! So March was at once the longest and the shortest feeling month to date and now that it’s over I’m having a hard time remembering what all went on this month (probably because NU: carnival dominated my life). And of course, I got to see my baby niece this month and she is the cutest little bean!!

I’m currently working on some site updates, but it’ll take me a bit to get everything set up, but once I do it should be cool (at least I think so lol). But, I suppose my biggest news is that I was invited to be a guest at FujoCon 2022! Apparently my rampant BL fangirling on the internet and I’ve been asked to host a panel on BL games and being a content creator…the uh, “details” are still a work in progress–the con isn’t until June so I have some time. But, I’m super excited, this will be my first con panel and I’m blown away that I was asked to spread the BL agenda and here’s hoping I do a good job!

As always there’s a lot more on the horizon in April, but before we dive into the new month, let’s take a look back at the month of March here at Blerdy Otome!

Blerdy Otome Monthly Recap – February 2022

Hey Blerdy Tribe! It’s the end of yet another month, so it’s time for the Blerdy Otome Monthly Recap! For the shortest month of the year, February has been a bit of a whirlwind for me. I had a lot of great opportunities come my way this month. I had the chance to participate in the Farming February charity event over on Twitch, where I helped raise funds for No Kid Hungry. The same week I participated in the Aksys Games Variable Barricade release day stream with some awesome otome fans (big shoutout to everyone who came out, I was nervous as heck and seeing friendly folks in the chat made everything so much more relaxed). And, I was invited to participate in a big project for later on in the year! On top of that I hit some pretty big milestones: 700+ followers on Twitch and 4K followers on Twitter! There’s still 10 more months left in the year, so I’m excited to see what else is in store for Blerdy Otome in the future!

As always there’s a lot more on the horizon in March, but before we dive into the new month, let’s take a look back at the month of February here at Blerdy Otome!

Blerdy Otome Monthly Recap – January 2022

Hey Blerdy Tribe! It’s the end of yet another month, so it’s time for the Blerdy Otome Monthly Recap! Can y’all believe that January is already over? It’s still early in the year, but 2022 is off to a great start for me! I hit a few milestones this month–getting 600 follower on my Twitch channel and maintaining a 22-day blogging streak being two of the biggest ones. I was also invited to participate in Aksys Games’s release day livestream for Variable Barricade on Feb. 24th (3PM PST) and I am super excited! This is such a fun opportunity and I can’t wait—y’all I did a little dance when they contacted me! If you can come to the stream, please come out and support, I’ll post more details closer to the stream!

Also, I managed to get my hands on a PS5 and I’m so excited to start playing games I didn’t have access to before (I always had handhelds growing up)! I’ve already got Persona 5 Royal and the Demon Slayer game, but I am open to recommendations—so definitely send them my way!

As always there’s a lot more on the horizon in February, but before we dive into the new month, let’s take a look back at the month of January here at Blerdy Otome!

Blerdy Otome Monthly Recap – November 2021

Hey Blerdy Tribe! It’s the end of yet another month, so it’s time for the Blerdy Otome Monthly Recap! It’s already December?! The year is practically over already?!

While I didn’t win the*gameHERS award, just making it as a finalist was a huge honor and it inspired me to do more here on Blerdy Otome! I still have some growing to do both as a blogger and as a creator and it’s only up from here!

In November I also hit 500 followers over on Twitch and I am still kinda surprised at how much the channel has grown and how awesome everyone over there has been! I’ve met some super cool streamer and the folks who wander into my chat are always a riot! Ever stream is so much fun and even when I have tech issues everyone has been phenomenal about rolling with all the hiccups!

As always there’s a lot more on the horizon in December, but before we dive into the new month, let’s take a look back at the month of November here at Blerdy Otome!

Reviews To Expect in December

I usually just go with the flow when it comes to content here on Blerdy Otome, so it’s kind of hard to pin down what to expect each month. I want to get better at sticking to a “schedule” so I thought it would be good practice to include a section with some of the reviews I plan to write during the upcoming month. Not only will this hold me accountable, but it will also give you all an idea of what to expect to see in the month ahead. Full disclosure, this is not a complete list and there’s a good chance things will change—this is more of a rough draft…

  • Eh, clearly having a plan doesn’t work, also the holidays are coming up so I’ll be in Vegas for a bit with my family. Let’s just go with the flow and see what I can get through this month.

Blerdy Otome Monthly Recap – October 2021

Hey Blerdy Tribe! It’s the end of yet another month, so it’s time for the Blerdy Otome Monthly Recap! It’s already November?! Where the hell did 2021 go?!

The month of October was definitely hectic on my end, but there were some awesome things that happened too! I made it as a finalist in TheGameHers Award for Top Journalist of the Year and I am still blown away that I made it to the top 5 alongside phenomenal content creators from sites like Game Informer and Kotaku. To even have Blerdy Otome in the same sentence as such huge gaming sites is something I never imagined was possible when I started this site back in 2015. I’ve come so far since my Nice Job Breaking It, Hero days and the sky’s the limit so I can’t wait to see where the future takes me!

As always there’s a lot more on the horizon in November, but before we dive into the new month, let’s take a look back at the month of October here at Blerdy Otome!

Blerdy Otome Monthly Recap – September 2021

Hey Blerdy Tribe! It’s the end of yet another month, so it’s time for the Blerdy Otome Monthly Recap! This year is breezing by, it seems like just yesterday it was January and now it’s already October?! A lot has happened this past month—I started a discord server to connect with folks away from Twitch and the Blog, and I was nominated for TheGameHers Award for Top Journalist of the Year (which still kind blows my mind). Whether I make it to the next round or not it’s still really cool to have been included among so many amazing content creators!

As always there’s a lot more on the horizon in October, but before we dive into the new month, let’s take a look back at the month of September here at Blerdy Otome!

Blerdy Otome Monthly Recap – August 2021

Hey Blerdy Tribe! It’s the end of yet another month, so it’s time for the Blerdy Otome Monthly Recap! Is it just me or did August just kind of breeze by?! This month is kind of a blur… We’re getting closer to our annual meeting at my job, so work has been kind of hectic, but, streaming has become a great way to destress after hours. Though Twitch’s lax attitude towards bot raids and hate raids has me pissed off #TwitchDBetter. But, I’ve been lucky to have met so many amazing streamers who are super chill and super supportive, like Lauren aka BlackBelleFlower. And this weekend we’ll be doing a special collab stream over on Twitch; we’ll be playing Monster Prom!

Collab BlkBellflower

Here on the blog home front I did something I said I’d never do and created a walkthrough for a game! It was a lot of extra work, but there’s something kinda fun about doing them. I did a much deeper dive into the game than I normally would have and I think I might make this a regular thing… maybe…

This month was also a great month for otome fans, with Aksys hitting us with not one, but four new otome game localization announcements during their All Aksys Event! We are getting fed in 2021 and I am here for it! There’s a lot more on the horizon in September, but before we dive into the new month, let’s take a look back at the month of August here at Blerdy Otome!

Favorite Otome Tropes

Whether you think they’re cliché or overused, tropes make the world go round! Otome games are ripe with tropes, from accidental cohabitation to ridiculous meet cutes to the standard character archetypes, we all have tropes that we love (and hate) from the genre. So, today I wanted to share some of my favorite otome tropes that really set my heart aflutter~

  • Olympia Soiree – I finished the game and now I have to collect my thoughts–and trust me when I say, Olympia Soiree deals with a LOT.
  • Taisho x Alice Epilogue – I’m going to finally carve out some time and give this bad boy a play!
  • Piofiore Fated Memories – I need to know if Yang makes it through his epic battle with that pack of wolves.
  • Hadaka Shitsuji – I swear, I’m gonna finish this game if it’s the last thing I do… I just… I’ve come this far, might as well finish what I started.

EPHEMERAL: LOGO DESIGN ANALYSISThe Picky Champy (Milda-Chan)

Anyone can write a review about a game, but over at The Picky Champy, Milda looks at the logo designs of our fave otome games. It’s really fascinating looking at their breakdowns of the different elements that go into game logos, some of which offer insight into some of the themes that appear in the games themselves.

Bad Boys, Happy Home Vol 1 Review – Al’s Manga Blog (alsmangablog)

Bad Boys, Happy Home is one of my new favorite BL manga series and I love seeing folks talk about it! It’s such a different kind of BL series, that feels more like a shounen series than some of the softer BL manga in the market, and Al touches on all the reasons you should be reading this manga in their phenomenal review!

Growing Interest with Historical-Fiction Games And What I learned from themThe Kitten Who Eats Ramen (Ryder Krystal Rose)

Ryder is taking us to school! In this fun post, they look at a couple of Historical-Fiction themed games and shares some of the things they learned from them about our real world histories. From the Roaring 20’s to Japan’s Bakumatsu period, Ryder takes us on a journey through time in this fun post!

TOP 3 OMEGAVERSE BL THAT MADE ME HAVE A CHANGE OF HEART – All the Fujoshi Unite (Nora)

It is no secret that I love Omegaverse media (I stay trolling AO3 for omegaverse fics), but I know that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. It’s very much an acquired taste, so I’m always curious to see what other people think of it and in this latest post, Nora shares some of the omegaverse manga series they fell in love with, despite their reservations about the genre. Definitely check this post out and maybe you’ll have a change of heart too!

Blerdy Otome Monthly Recap – July 2021

Hey Blerdy Tribe! It’s the end of yet another month, so it’s time for the Blerdy Otome Monthly Recap! It’s hard to believe that this year is more than halfway over—where is the time going?!

July has been an exciting month, from the IFI otome announcements to the release of both Tears of Themis and BUSTAFELLOWS—otome fans are getting fed in 2021! And there’s even more otome goodness coming our way in the coming months! On a personal level, I went to BlerdCon earlier this month and got to take one of my online friendships to IRL and we had a blast exploring the con (hopefully we can meetup again for more cons).

I did a bit of sprucing up here on the ol’ site. I changed the theme and cleaned up the menus and tags, (because they were a mess), and added banners to my pages. Some of the more noticeable changes are that I streamlined the menu: linking items to pages instead of categories or tags, removing stuff that wasn’t relevant to the current focus of the site, finally fixing the Otome Game Reviews and Indie Game Reviews pages so they just show game reviews. I also created a page for Otome Basics, a one stop shop for otome newbies—my Beginner’s Guide to Otome, a curated list of great posts for newbies, and more, so definitely check that out! I also updated all the Manga Reviews so they all have feature images and it was kinda fun making them.

There’s a lot more on the horizon in August, but before we dive into the new month, let’s take a look back at the month of July here at Blerdy Otome!
