Blerdy Otome Monthly Recap – October 2021

Hey Blerdy Tribe! It’s the end of yet another month, so it’s time for the Blerdy Otome Monthly Recap! It’s already November?! Where the hell did 2021 go?!

The month of October was definitely hectic on my end, but there were some awesome things that happened too! I made it as a finalist in TheGameHers Award for Top Journalist of the Year and I am still blown away that I made it to the top 5 alongside phenomenal content creators from sites like Game Informer and Kotaku. To even have Blerdy Otome in the same sentence as such huge gaming sites is something I never imagined was possible when I started this site back in 2015. I’ve come so far since my Nice Job Breaking It, Hero days and the sky’s the limit so I can’t wait to see where the future takes me!

As always there’s a lot more on the horizon in November, but before we dive into the new month, let’s take a look back at the month of October here at Blerdy Otome!

Reviews To Expect in October

I usually just go with the flow when it comes to content here on Blerdy Otome, so it’s kind of hard to pin down what to expect each month. I want to get better at sticking to a “schedule” so I thought it would be good practice to include a section with some of the reviews I plan to write during the upcoming month. Not only will this hold me accountable, but it will also give you all an idea of what to expect to see in the month ahead. Full disclosure, this is not a complete list and there’s a good chance things will change—this is more of a rough draft…

  • Eh, clearly having a plan doesn’t work. Let’s just go with the flow and see what I can get through this month.

From Around the Reader

Yakuza Love Has Its Risks! | Arrested Love Part 1 Review Religiously Nerdy (Religiously Nerdy)

I am always on the look out for new manga to check out ladies of Religiously Nerdy have got us covered with their review of Arrested Love, a rom-com about a yakuza boss who falls in love with a crime investigator! The series looks super fun and it’s short episodic story structure seems perfect for after work reading. Definitely give this review a read!

You can keep your ghosts and demons… for me, there is nothing scarier than a yandere that has their eye on you! Oona Tempest of Sweet & Spicy Reviews is celebrating the spooky season with a list of 10 “terrifying” yandere love interests! This is a super fun list and definitely worth checking out if you’re in the market for a nice cage…

Short Reviews: Spooktober 2021Part-Time Storier (Jane Titor)

The 3rd annual Spooktober Jam has come and gone and with it a whole new crop of spooky indie games! During Spooktober Jam, indie devs have one-month to create their best spooky games and this year had a whopping 114 submissions! In this post, indie game dev and gamer, Jane Titor shares their first impressions of their fave titles from the jam! Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for some fun spooky games to play!

Shoujos with male protagonistKS Blog (Eggsandwich04)

I will admit that it’s been awhile since I really got into a shoujo series (I blame otome games), but I still have fond memories of reading a few titles like Ouran Highschool Host Club and Hot Gimmick back in the day. So when I saw Eggsandwich’s post on shoujo series I had to give it a look see. In this post they spotlight some of their favorite shoujo series with male protagonists–you read that right! Instead of young maidens on romantic journeys these series follow cute boys taking center stage in these fun shoujo reads!

Thank You for Your Support!!

A lot of what I do here on Blerdy Otome is because of the support of all of you amazing readers–whether it’s your encouraging words on Twitter, liking a post or just sharing my posts with others, you guys are the real MVPS ! It’s no secret that buying games and manga for reviews puts a strain on my wallet and while I love what I do, a little extra help goes a long way!

This month I was able to pay my WordPress hosting fees with the help of my Ko-fi donations! I say this all the time, but you dear readers are the real MVPs here. Because of YOU I was able to keep things running here on Blerdy Otome for another year. Thank you for being so super special awesome!

Thank you for reading and supporting Blerdy Otome!
