Year in Review: A Look Back at 2024 on Blerdy Otome

Hey there Blerdy Tribe! Its the end of another year and I’ll be honest, this year was a test. 2024 brought with it some amazing opportunities and growth for me as a creator and also some huge personal and emotional lows.

But we move. You take the bitter with the sweet, learning and growing along the way and hopefully after everything is said and done, when you look back at everything you feel good about where you are now. So, with 2025 on the horizon, I want to look back at 2024 and all the highs and lows that came along with it.

Personal Wins in 2024

2024 was a year of some pretty big wins for me as a content creator and I’m gonna brag about it, because I did that shit! But, seriously it can be pretty daunting being a content creator and its really easy to get bogged down by all the negative stuff that I lose sight of the positives. So, its nice to remind myself of just how much I have accomplished.

Going to Pax East as Press

I am still blown away that I managed to pull this one off, but in 2024 I applied and was accepted as press for PAX East 2024. I’ve been to anime conventions before, but this was the first time that I went to a gaming centered convention and it was friggin PAX! It was an amazing experience, I met with the folks from All Ages of Geek, talked with industry reps, publishers, and developers, and of course played a lot of games. Blerdy Otome isn’t some big platform, nor is it the most well known, so to not only apply but to be accepted on my own merit just validated all the hard work I’ve been putting into building this space over the years. PAX East is still the highlight of my year and trust and believe I am going to make my way back there in 2025!

Getting Accepted to the Youtube Partner Program (Twice)

One of my big 2024 goals was to build my YouTube channel. Last year I’d been pretty inconsistent with it uploading old stream VODs every now and again. But, in 2024 I made an effort to upload at least 1 video a week, sometimes even 2 videos. And, I’m still getting my bearings with video content creation, but I was consistent enough to meet the requirements for YPP! This was a huge accomplishment because it opened up another means for me to make money creating content and while it still isn’t enough to pay any bills, every little bit helps.

I Started Doing Video Reviews

I have been playing around with the idea of doing video reviews for awhile now, but I never thought I had the tech skills to actually pull it off (still not sure I do…). But, despite my worries I took the plunge and just did it and I managed to create six video reviews for games I played this year. Now, that’s not a huge amount, but figuring out editing software and recording audio was a huge learning curve for my tech challenged ass. So, I’m extremely proud of myself for making it happen in the first place and I honestly prefer making video reviews to written ones. In a video you can hear me talk about a game in my own voice and I dunno, it just feels more authentically me. So, I’m definitely going to do more video reviews in 2025!

I Ran a BL Games Panel at Citrus Con

I hosted a panel on BL visual novels at the BL convention Citrus Con this year! I ran the same panel last year full of all the uncensored peens I could find and the lovely folks running the con decided to bring me back for round two! I get super nervous talking in front of people, whether it’s online or in person, so hosting a panel really takes me out of my comfort zone. But, Citrus Con is such an amazing convention and everyone that attends is super cool and supportive. I had so much fun running the panel and a lot of that was because of how great the vibe was in chat and with con staff. Seriously my BL Fam always makes me feel so supported and comfy and it did help that I was talking about uncensored peens for an hour lol. I’ve been invited back for a third year and I am so excited to do it again in 2025!

What’s in the future for Blerdy Otome in 2025

2024 was especially rough for me, because this year I lost my Nana and she was such a huge part of my life. She was pillar of my family and I could call her anytime day or night and I knew she would be there. And now she’s not. It just drove home how fleeting things can be and how important it is to prioritize the people and things that bring me joy and make me feel fulfilled.

I’ve spent a lot of time over the years focused on people and things that don’t “spark joy” and that’s not the kind of energy I want to bring into 2025. In the new year I want to prioritize the things I want to cover and give back to the community that has been there supporting me through all the highs and the lows.

So, what’s next for me in 2025? The new year will mark 10 years since I started this site and I kinda want to do something big to celebrate. When I started this site I never imagined it would grow into what it is today and I’m still in awe of the community I have built around my love of games. There have been a lot of bumps in the road along the way, but there have been so many more wonderful opportunities and friends that I have made because of Blerdy Otome.

I kind of hesitate to make any big concrete plans, because I want to leave myself open to whatever comes my way. But, in 2025 I definitely want to do more video content. Streaming and making videos for Youtube has been super fulfilling for me. I feel more authentic just talking about the games I love, so much more than just writing about them in reviews. Don’t worry, there will still be written reviews too. But, I plan on making more video reviews, so get used to hearing my voice, there will be more of that in 2025. (This coulda been a video, but I’m lazy and it’s my vacation lol)

I also want to prioritize playing a wider variety of games in 2025. In the past I have focused on otome games, and I’ll be real they just don’t hit the way they used to for me. Maybe it’s burnout. Maybe I wanna play other types of games. Time will tell. I’ll still cover them, but I will definitely be covering more cozy games, BL content, and indie titles in the coming year.

I’m super excited for what 2025 has in store for us and I hope you continue to stick it out with me while I figure out this whole content creation thing. Thank you to everyone who has been there throughout the years, to the new folks just finding me in 2024, and to the folks I’ve yet to meet! See y’all in the new year!
