[First Thoughts] Seiyuu Danshi – BL Game Review

I think a disclaimer is in order with this game, since I’ve only really finished one route in Seiyuu Danshi, so this isn’t a “full game review” in the traditional sense. However, I kind of feel like I got a pretty good sense of the game as a whole after my first playthrough and I’d like to share my “experience”.

A large part of the gameplay is dedicated to the stats raising, but with elements of a life simulator thrown in, giving players full control of the game’s protagonist, Haato as he navigates his career as a voice actor and his relationships—both platonic and romantic—with the game’s colorful and expansive cast of characters.

When I initially played the demo for Meyaoi Games’s boys love stats raiser Seiyuu Danshi back in 2016, I was excited for all the interesting features, stats raising included. It was a fresh idea at the time and at least in the limited time frame of the demo, the stats raising wasn’t too overbearing and felt much more casual than I expected going in. So, when the final version of the game was released I was eager to see the fruits of the developers’ labors and I’m not gonna lie, Seiyuu Danshi is a pretty impressive game.

Bacchikoi Expansion Pack- BL Game Review

So, I know some of you are wondering how in the world am I going to review an expansion pack, since it’s not really a game. Well, to that I say, *ahem* the Bacchikoi Expansion Pack is really just an overpriced fandisk, so I had no problem eking out a review and for what I paid for it, you better believe I’m writing a review! This game cost about as much as some real games…

I must be a glutton for punishment, because here I am talking about yet another Black Monkey Pro title, at least this time, it’s an expansion pack and not a full game… thank God! I don’t think I could actually put up with another BMP game, I just can’t… If you don’t remember how I felt about the previous Black Monkey Pro games I highly suggest reading my reviews for Sleepover and Bacchikoi and relive all the magic and wonder that is Black Monkey Pro, but forewarning those are NSFW reviews!

*Disclaimer: I don’t own the images used in this review, all CGs and screenshots belong to Black Monkey. Since this game is NSFW there will be some NSFW images after this point. I tried my best to hide some of the naughty bits, but… *shrugs* you’ve been warned!

Edit: In October of 2016 Black Monkey Pro disbanded, so Bacchikoi and all of their other content is no longer available for purchase, but feel free to still give this review a read!

Bacchikoi-BL Game Review

Bacchikoi is an 18+ PC BL visual novel from Black Monkey Pro an international BL artist circle. The game tells the story of a first year transfer student, Toshu Kanada, after he joins the baseball team at his new school. There he meets his new teammates, Ichiru Yanai and Masaru Nakahara and the trio become fast friends. But, as he spends more time with his new friends, new feelings start to develop, suddenly Toshu’s life becomes much more exciting!

There are two versions of the game: the Uncensored version which is $39.99 and the Censored version which is $17.99. So, if you are interested in the game, I strongly urge you to purchase it from Black Monkey directly. There is also an expansion pack which focuses on the sexual exploits of the team’s coach Genji… If you want to read my thoughts about the Expansion Pack, check out my review, HERE!

Sleepover- BL Game Review

Sleepover is an 18+ PC BL visual novel from Black Monkey Pro an international BL artist circle. The game tells the story of Haruyuki Kano, a young man who has secretly been in love with his best friend, Sato Hideaki (Aki) since they were children. Not wanting to ruin their friendship, Kano has done his best to keep his feelings to himself. But when a freak rain storm forces Aki to spend the night at his house, Kano finds himself with a once in a lifetime opportunity. Will Kano finally tell Aki how he feels or will he be content being “just friends”? Whatever you choose, Aki and Kano’s relationship will never be the same again!

You asked for more BL, so here it is… The things I do for my fellow BL/yaoi fans out there… I kid, I actually bought this game a few months ago on a whim, but I never got around to playing it until now. There are two versions of the game: the Uncensored version which is $29.99 and the Censored version which is $14.99. So, if you are interested in the game, I strongly urge you to purchase it from Black Monkey directly. Black Monkey Pro disbanded, the game is no longer available for purchase!

*Disclaimer: I don’t own the images used in this review, all CGs and screenshots belong to Black Monkey. Since this game is NSFW there will be some NSFW images after this point. I tried my best to hide some of the naughty bits, but… *shrugs* you’ve been warned!

Edit: A few months ago Black Monkey Pro disbanded, so Sleepover and all of there other content is no longer available for purchase, but feel free to still give this review a read! For the truly adventurous folks out there, I’m sure you can find a copy of the game online somewhere…

From Bondage to Freedom: DRAMAtical Murder- Mink Review

I was not looking forward to this route, in fact I was planning on skipping Mink’s route all together. But, in order to unlock Ren’s route, I had to complete the Good Ending for Koujaku, Noiz, Clear and Mink… So, I had no choice but to suffer through it. Mink is perhaps my least favorite route of the game, even before I played it, I wasn’t very interested in Mink as a “love interest”. Even now after playing through his entire story, I’m still not a fan.

2016-05-04 (85)

Mink is the leader of the prison Rhyme team Scratch, and to be honest that’s all that anyone really knows about him. He shares little with his fellow team members, and has a tendency to speak with his fists. But, beneath his stoic exterior lies a complex character whose emotions run much deeper than anyone around him could ever imagine. I was surprised by this route, I definitely got to see a different side of Mink than I expected.

**Disclaimer: I don’t own these images, they belong to Nitro+chiral…and this goes without saying, but there will be minor SPOILERS under the cut… For your sanity and my own, there will be none of the rapey or especially violent CGs in this post…You’re welcome!*

From Pain to Pleasure: DRAMAtical Murder- Noiz Review

It has really been a long time since I last picked up this game. DRAMAtical Murder and the Koujaku reviews were my first ever reviews on this blog, and here I am almost seven months later writing another one. Boy has the time flown by…my only hope is that I’ve improved some since those first reviews (at least I think I have). I have since written an updated review of DRAMAtical Murder, which can be found, HERE. After muddling through Koujaku’s route, I set my sights on Noiz… But, I was so overwhelmed by how dull Koujaku’s route was that I put DMMd on the back burner until I could forget about it. Well it took seven months, and here I am finally ready to give DMMd another shot!

Noiz chara card.png

I did not expect to love this route as much as I did, but oh boy did I ever! Noiz is hands down my favorite route of the game! Noiz is the creep who drive by Rhymes Aoba in the common route. At first his blunt attitude rubbed me the wrong way, but the more I played, the more I began to like this socially awkward bunny!

**Disclaimer: I don’t own these images, they belong to Nitro+chiral…and this goes without saying, but there will be some character related spoilers under the cut and one or two NSFW images in this post (censored) you have been warned**

From Friends to Lovers: DRAMAtical Murder Koujaku’s Review

Koujaku is the resident hairdresser of the Old District and leader of the local Rib team, Benishigure. As stated above he and Aoba are childhood friends, but sometime before the plot, Koujaku and his mother moved away from Midorijima to the Mainland. When he returned (alone) he and Aoba continued their friendship as if no time had passed. Because of his skill, Koujaku is the man women love and men want to be. He has amassed a large number of female fans who, throw themselves at him every chance they get.

Koujaku 5

This has been sitting in my Drafts for a while now…I thought some time would give me a little perspective…

So I just finished playing DMMd, and I got Koujaku’s Good End on the first try! Yay me! But to be honest this route was kind of dull for me. I usually go for the tsundere types and ignore the childhood friend/brother types, but Koujaku was just too good looking to pass up. And boy is he the mother of all childhood friends! Koujaku is Aoba’s flirty/womanizing childhood friend with just enough of a troubled past to warrant him having his own route.

So I kinda sorta like yaoi…and by “like” I mean LOVE!

Before I start singing the praises of the genre here is a brief overview of some BL/Yaoi basics….

Yaoi 101

Yaoi, aka Boy’s Love (as defined by wiki) “is a genre of fictionalized media focusing on romantic and sexual relationships between male characters, typically aimed at female audiences.” Yaoi is a more sexual off shoot of shounen-ai, which depicts more tame male-on-male relationships. Most BL and yaoi focus on men, with little or no female presence within the plot. Male characters are plentiful and fit into one of two categories: Seme or Uke.

Semes

Semes usually, but not always display masculine characteristics. These men are referred to as the “tops” and are the dominant participants in the relationship. These characters are often more aggressive than their partners and are the ones who “give” during sexual intercourse. These men are usually strong, well built specimens who appeal to both men and women, and are often seen pursuing their prey uke.

I generally like confident and imposing semes, but that’s just me. It’s even better when the seme has a cute side that only his uke gets to see. There is something sexy about a man blushing that gets me all hot and bothered…now put some glasses on that seme…

Ukes

Ukes on the other hand are the “receivers” or bottoms. They are often more feminine in appearance and physically smaller than semes. These characters are often more reserved than their partners, rarely pushing the relationship. Most BL is told from their perspective giving insight into their thoughts and feelings, making them more relatable to the reader. Seme/Uke roles can be both permanent and impermanent with some couples choosing to reverse roles within the relationships (I personally like this). Also age has no bearings in who is a seme and who is an uke. Semes can be younger than their partners and ukes can be older and vise versa.
