From Chatrooms to Panels – Mystic Messenger Webtoon First Impressions

Like many of you, I dived head first into Mystic Messenger hell back in 2016—between the quirky characters and real time chatrooms—the game’s unique gameplay style quickly stole the hearts (and sleep) of everyone in the otome community. And even now four years later, Mystic Messenger is still going strong, spawning new events and stories—but, did you know that Cheritz’s wildly popular mobile game had an official webtoon?! Invitation of the Mystic Message is the official webtoon adaptation of the dating sim, Written by GIMAN with Art by meriG.

Synopsis

Hana is usually a glass-half-full sort of person, but lately, nothing seems to be going her way. After yet another fruitless day of job hunting, she finds herself pouring out all her frustrations to a stranger in the street. The kind stranger disappears before they get a chance to exchange names or numbers, however, leaving behind a phone with nothing but a single messenger app. “Can you read this message…?” As soon as Hana logs on, username “Unknown” tells her they know the person she is looking for. Although a little suspicious, she is intrigued. Who was the stranger that lent her a shoulder to cry on? Who is this “Unknown” she is chatting with? To find the answers to her questions, she must first accept a mysterious invitation. Time to get reacquainted with Jumin, 707, Zen, Yoosung, Jaehee and the rest of Mystic Messenger!

Currently the Prologue and the first 2 chapters are available for free over on Tappytoon with the next three chapters going live on 7/11/2020! And what self respecting otome fan would I be if I didn’t immediately read the available chapters?! This won’t be an official review, since there are only 3 chapters available right now, but I did want to share my thoughts on the comic.

[Update] Cheritz to Lift Bans on Improperly Banned Accounts

Edit (9/28): Cheritz has made an official announcement about the bans on their Tumblr page, HERE!

Screenshot_20160929-072100.png

First, I want to say thank you to Aurora6290 for sending me this tip! As many of you knowMystic Messenger players have been receiving Permanent Bans for reasons not associated with the Time Modification Cheat. Current ban triggers are as follows:

  • Using  Hourglasses to replay multiple missed chats, as far as I’ve heard using Hourglasses to replay one missed chat at a time has not resulted in a banned account.
  • Pausing or remaining idle for too long during chat rooms, though the exact amount of time idle that triggers the ban has yet to be disclosed.
  • Quitting or closing the app in the middle of a chat room  also results in a ban notice.

The recent influx of non-time manipulation related bans has caused a bit of a stir in the community and applaud all of you that took the time to reach out to Cheritz about the issue. Well, Cheritz was listening and they have reached out to all affected players.

Cheritz will be reviewing all of the improperly banned account reports and will be taking action to lift the bans for those accounts. In addition to lifting the ban on all the wrongfully banned accounts, Cheritz will also be compensating afflicted players. Compensation will be calculated based on the number of days the specific account was inactive.

Cheritz has already released the update to lift the ban on affected accounts! Here’s a link to the account that first posted the news…. HERE!

So what do you think about the recent backlash? If you have any more information to share on the recent Mystic Messenger bans please feel free to drop a line on this post! As always THANK YOU FOR READING!! If you like what you see, like this post or follow Nice Job Breaking It, Hero!

Mystic Messenger Bans and the Petition

Edit (9/25): I have been receiving a large number of comments from players that are receiving bans for reasons other than turning back the time on their devices. If you feel that you have been wrongfully banned, contact Cheritz directly and submit an official report on the issue through: help@cheritz.com!

Edit 9/24: The petition was removed from Change.org due to negative backlash on twitter. The creator posted an explanation on Instagram, but it has since been removed

*Cheritz has lifted bans on all wrongfully banned accounts, read the full post, HERE!*

I really thought that I was done writing about Mystic Messenger, but the recent update has many in the fandom up in arms and I think it’s time I gave opinion on the matter.

I do not stand behind that silly Petition, in fact, I think the whole thing is utterly ridiculous! For those who don’t know, Cheritz just released an update that changed some things about the Mystic Messenger experience:

  1. Players that were/are resetting their device times to replay missed chats will now have their accounts PERMANENTLY BANNED!
  2. Max Speed in chats will now be reserved for VIP members only. VIP membership can be  purchased from Cheritz, HERE.
  3. Cheritz will also be restricting the number of save files players can use for free.
  4. Finally, 5 HOURGLASSES will be used every time players load a save file!

First, I see absolutely nothing wrong with these updates. Cheritz is still a relatively small developer and they spent a lot of time and money to make this game a reality. So, it only makes sense that they would try to recoup some of their investments. Developing a game, especially a voiced game requires a considerable amount of money and time. And the fact that Cheritz decided to make the game a free to play app is very generous on their part! So when I saw that some angry fan went out and created petitions against Cheritz on Change.org, I was a little pissed off and here’s why…

*This post is my opinion and it’s cool if you don’t agree with it, I am open to hearing what everyone has to say, but I WILL NOT TOLERATE any personal attacks. Do not use my comments section to attack anyone, be sure to keep all discussions tame.

How to Survive Mystic Messenger Hell in 8 Easy Steps

So like many of you I recently jumped on the Mystic Messenger bandwagon and while the game is fun, there are a few things I wish I had known beforehand. Now, I’m not going to post a full walkthrough or how to guide, because it’s been done before by better bloggers than myself. So, nothing fancy, just a rundown of some things I learned while going through my first playthrough of the game.

If you want the game, you can download it from the App Store or from Google Play for free, but there are options for in-app purchases!

So You Wanna Chat with Hot Guys… There’s an App for That: Mystic Messenger- First Thoughts

Mystic Messenger is a free to play real time mobile game from Cheritz, the company behind PC otome games Dandelion- Wishes brought to you and Nameless- The one thing you must recall. In the game while looking for a new game in the app store, the MC (you) accidentally download a strange messenger app. Upon opening the app, you are immediately pulled into a chat with a mysterious user named Unknown, who instructs you to go to a certain address. Once there your phone logs in to a secret chat room filled with hot guys and one super awesome gal (outside of Zen’s route). From there you are asked to join the R.F.A., their secret party planning group.

I want to get this out while it’s still fresh in my head. I just cleared Zen’s Good End on my first playthrough of the game. I’ve spent 11 sleepless nights on this game and I have a lot to say about the game…
