This week’s post will include links to the games and a brief synopsis, but let me stress that these are not reviews, but recommendations… so your mileage may vary! I’ve kind of been on a detective kick, so all of this week’s picks are along those lines… Now that that’s out of the way lets get on to this week’s list!!
Methods: The Detective Competition (2019)- LockedOn
One hundred detectives compete against each other in a mysterious competition, solving crimes created by the world’s smartest criminals.
The detective who wins receives one million dollars and the opportunity of a lifetime. If a criminal wins, however, they will also receive a million dollars… and parole, no matter the severity of their crime.
Methods: The Detective Competition is an ongoing round robin styled detective puzzle visual novel. Play as a different detective main character, each with their own unique methods for solving crimes. Explore crime scenes, interrogate witnesses and sift through clues to get to the bottom of the cases. There are currently 30 chapters released (out of a planned 100), with new updates coming out every Thursday.
Misadventures of Laura Silver: Chapter I (2019)- Studio Attic Salt
Need more stress in your life? Meet Laura Silver, a paranoid and insomniac detective tasked with researching Slavic mythology. Do you know anything about the Vodnik? Neither does she. Unfortunately, her incompetence won’t be your biggest problem in Czechoslovakia.
Misadventures of Laura Silver: Chapter I is a supernatural detective mystery visual novel. This is the first installment in the series, with Chapter II scheduled for a 2020 release date. Each chapter features a self contained case, blending together the narrative storytelling of a visual novel with the interactive mini games and investigations of a detective adventure.

The World Next Door (2019)- VIZ
The World Next Door follows Jun, a rebellious teen who finds herself far from home in the magical and mysterious world of Emrys. As she encounters a colorful cast of otherworldly creatures, Jun must learn to rely on her new friends to get back to Earth before time runs out.
The World Next Door is a puzzle battler game, with the immersive storytelling of a visual novel. The game was developed by VIZ Media (yes, that VIZ Media) and features a fast paced real time battle mechanic that blends together mini games and puzzles with a more action oriented gameplay. Branching dialogue choices and a reputation meter affect the flow of the story and Jun’s relationship with other characters. And, if you aren’t big on the combat mode, switch to Assit Mode and focus on the story!
That’s it for this week’s thrifty buys, but, don’t worry I’ll have more titles for in next week’s post, so be on the look out for that next Thursday! But, if all that extra money you saved is burning a hole in your pocket and you just can’t wait for next week’s list, definitely check out some of my previous Thrifty Gaming posts, there are tons of games for gamers who like me are ballin’ on a budget!
