Hello all you wonderful Heroes and Travelers, it’s Thrifty Thursday and that means another Thrifty Gaming post, the weekly post series where I spotlight three games/visual novels for gamers on a budget. Whatever your financial situation, I’m here to bring you affordable games that won’t break the bank!! All of the games on this list are $10 or less (does not include limited time offers and sale items), so no more weepy wallets!
This week’s post will include links to the games and a brief synopsis, but let me stress that these are not reviews, but recommendations… so your mileage may vary! Now that that’s out of the way lets get on to this week’s list!!
Syrup and the Ultimate Sweet (2015)- Nami
SYRUP AND THE ULTIMATE SWEET is about a candy alchemist, syrup, who one day finds a candy golem in her basement workshop. Where did she come from?? Who the heck made her?????
Syrup and the Ultimate Sweet is a short fantasy visual novel developed by Nami. The game was developed for Yuri Jam 2015 and was completed in just one month. Syrup and the Ultimate Sweet consists of approximately 30-50 minutes of gameplay, with 10 routes each with their own unique endings. The game is available in English and Spanish, with translations also available in Korean, French, and Portuguese.
Dr. Frank’s Build a Boyfriend- (2017)- Heiden
After being kicked out of both his PhD program (plant science) as well as medical school (Pathology), Dr. Frank had pretty much resolved himself to a life of solitude and science. That is, until a handsome stranger knocked on his door and swept him off his feet. Dominik seemed to be the perfect boyfriend- attentive, caring, and interested in Dr. Frank’s work.
Maybe too interested.
Three months into the rainbow-colored relationship, Dominik runs off with Dr. Frank’s lifelong research on resurrection to present at the annual prestigious Hindenberg University Conference, under his own name.
Livid, Dr. Frank decides the only course of action: Revenge.
Not only is Dr. Frank going to one-up Dominik’s presentation by presenting the world’s first artificial life form, but Dr. Frank is going to make said life form the world’s hottest, most beautiful boyfriend.
Dr. Frank’s Build a Boyfriend is a short comedy BL visual novel originally created for the Yaoi Jam 2016, but was released in it’s entirety in 2017. The game features traditional visual novel features as well as elements from point-and-click adventure games. While the game does feature some choices (mostly when designing your Franken-Boyfriend), the gameplay is similar to that of a kinetic novel with one storyline and ending.
Perceptions of the Dead (2017)- Ithaqua Labs
The first thing you need to know is that ghosts are real.
The rest, you can only learn on your own.
Follow three stories set in a world where the dead linger, and things far worse wait beyond the veil.
Perceptions of the Dead is a supernatural visual novel from Ithaqua Labs. The game itself features a series of three loosely interconnected ghost stories: ‘The Phantom Ice Cream Truck’, ‘Perceptions of the Dead’, and ‘Live with Jill Count’. Each of the stories are connected by the game’s protagonist, Jill, with a new supporting cast. In addition to the usual visual novel features, Perceptions of the Dead is fully voiced in English.
That’s it for this week’s thrifty buys, but, don’t worry I’ll have more titles for in next week’s post, so be on the look out for that next Thursday! But, if all that extra money you saved is burning a hole in your pocket and you just can’t wait for next week’s list, definitely check out some of my previous Thrifty Gaming posts, there are tons of games for gamers who like me are ballin’ on a budget!
So what did you think of this week’s Thrifty Gamer post? Are you planning on checking out any of these games or have you already played them? Let me know what you think in the comments section. Maybe I will try Syrup. The art is cute and it isn’t a big time investment.
It’s a super cute game, definitely something you could just play at the office lol
