30 Day Anime Challenge- Day 17: My Favorite Supporting Male Anime Character

It’s Day 17 and I’m supposed to talk about my favorite supporting male character… Well, I have quite a few favorite supporting characters, so this choice was much more difficult than I thought it would be…

Sometimes the supporting characters are better than the actual protagonist. I dunno, there is just something unique about supporting characters, that just makes them easier to relate to. Unlike protagonists, they don’t necessarily follow a specific pattern which allows for a greater degree of variability in their characterization. Which is the case with my pick, this guy is so much cooler that the protagonist… it’s a shame that they killed him off though. My pick for my favorite supporting male anime character is…

itachi

Villain turned anti-hero, Itachi Uchiha from Naruto. I liked Itachi long before I was supposed to like him. I mean way back before Masashi Kishimoto, decided that he needed a noble back story transforming Itachi from evil Akatsuki badass to noble martyr badass. This is a guy who knows that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, so what if he had to murder his entire clan in the process. He was the one villain you just couldn’t help but like, with his genius level ninja skills and cool, unemotional demeanor… Itachi just stood out from the rest!

As an Uchiha, Itachi possessed skills far beyond that of normal shinobi, but even among the elite Itachi stood out as a child prodigy. He was well versed in the art of combat, far surpassing his peers, earning him the title as the best shinobi of his generation. Itachi completed his preliminary ninja training at a young age, becoming one of the youngest to reach the chunin rank. At the age of 11 he became a member of Konoha’s elite covert team, the Anbu, rising to the leadership position by age 13. However, for all of his fighting prowess, Itachi is at heart a pacifist. Grown up during the Third Shinobi War lead Itachi to become disillusioned with war and blood shed. As a result he became extremely introverted, spending most of his time focused on his studies.

It’s actually kind of funny that I like Itachi so much as a character, considering how much I dislike his brother, Sasuke. But, Itachi just had a really compelling story, from his tragic past to his eventual redemption, everything about him just worked!

So, that’s my choice for my favorite supporting male anime character… What did you think of my pick? Who would you have chosen? Let me know in the comments section! As always THANK YOU for reading!!!

  1. These questions are so hard tbh, I have no idea. Itachi is a good pick, but I got very let down by Naruto anime/manga overall, ditto for Bleach/some others.
Weirdly enough in shoujo manga/anime I tend to end up wanting the MC to end up with the other dude of the triangles, the one that never gets the girl yet makes so much effort that I root for them 😁
I tend to like the pretties one and they tend to be villains, like Sesshomaru/etc 😂
Fave male supportive… Maybe Touya&Yukito/Yue, or Subaru from X/1999 +_+

    1. Yeah, I fell out with Naruto after they killed off a character I liked. But I picked it up again when the series ended and found out they’d revived the character… smh Bleach and I aren’t friends anymore ever since the filler arc of the anime…

As you know I dislike love triangles of all shapes and sizes! Lol

Sesshomaru was gorgeous!! And awesome choices!!

But yeah these prompts really made me think lol

      1. I lost interest so I haven’t gone back to finish Reborn, Naruto, Bleach, so on. It’s easy to go from fangirl to nonchalant about a series when it’s ongoing and you lose hype&rhythm /shrugs
        Love triangles are so saddening because one always loses ;_;
Thanks! Sesshomaru definitely should have a card for gorgeous Host boy 😁

  2. Awesome choice! Did you see all the supplemental Itachi materials, like the Itachi Shinden Arc and Itachi’s Story? My wife is a huge Itachi fan, and I see the appeal of his character.

My favorite supporting character is also my favorite villain, Vegeta from DBZ. He’s a great character, especially when you follow his growth. His development is strongest during the Buu arc when he has a son to take care of. There are so many great male supporting characters in anime, but I just have to go with a classic!

    1. I saw a bit of them, but not all of it yet. I plan on watching all of it when I have some more free time.

I definitely agree, Vegeta is an awesome character! I agree, he is one of the best examples of positive character growth of any anime character I have seen to date! Plus you can’t go wrong with a classic!

Gush about cute otome boys~
