Fangirl Moment: Arthur

TGIF! Here we are again with another Fangirl Friday! This week I’m covering a TV show that I absolutely loved as a kid! I used to watch this show every single day, both before and after school, and a few days ago, I found myself binge watching the first few seasons on YouTube… I’m talking about the children’s show, Arthur!

I’m in my mid 20’s now, well outside of the show’s target demographic, but I still can’t help but love this inquisitive 8 year old aardvark and his friends in the fictional town of Elwood City!

Fangirl Moment: Sherlock

TGIF! Here we are again with another Fangirl Friday! Okay so last week after I saw Doctor Strange, I found myself craving more Benedict Cumberbatch… so, I opened up Netflix and binge watched all three seasons of the BBC series, Sherlock. I’ve seen mixed reviews about the series; people either love it or they hate, so I really didn’t know what to expect from the show…

I didn’t expect to like this series as much as I did, but it only took me one episode and I was hooked! I’d be lying if I didn’t say Cumberbatch was the main reason I started watching the show, but the Martin Freeman’s facial expressions are what really kept me watching… I kid!

If you all didn’t already know this, I’m a huge fan superhero films and comics. So when I saw that Netflix was teaming up with Marvel to bring another comic book hero to the small screen I was ready. But, when I saw that they were going to give the Blaxploitation era superhero, Luke Cage (aka. Power Man) his own series, let’s just say the premiere couldn’t come soon enough!

For weeks, everyone that I knew would rave about what a great show this was and how I just had to watch it… So a week or two ago, my bf and I hunkered down and watched the entire series on Netflix! We watched all eight episodes, which given our hectic schedules, too a few days to coordinate. But, oh my gosh, I get it now! I totally see what all the hype was about and I can’t wait for season 2!!

Fangirl Moment: Jem and the Holograms

TGIF! Here we are again with another Fangirl Friday! This week I am covering a cartoon series that is…truly, truly, truly OUTRAGEOUS! Yup, that’s right I’m covering the 80’s animated show, Jem and the Holograms! So put on your legwarmers, grab your pink eye shadow and get ready for a glam rock experience you won’t soon forget! We’re taking a trip back to a simpler time, where most conflicts could be resolved with…musical battles?

I am definitely not an 80’s kid, so I didn’t grow up with the series, I only recently became acquainted with it, so rest assured, this is not a nostalgia fueled post. This show is definitely a product of the 80’s, so I’ll admit that some aspects of this show can seem pretty cheesy to a modern audience… But, for some reason as ridiculous as this show is, it still manages to suck you in. Maybe its the catchy songs, or maybe it’s the over the top glam fashion that permanently burns itself into your retina…

*We will not speak of that thing they called a movie…that was a tragedy and I will have none of that here…*

Fangirl Moment: Steven Universe

TGIF! Here we are again with another Fangirl Friday! This week I’m covering an American cartoon series, Steven Universe. I absolutely adored this series from the first episode and every episode since then reminds me just how awesome of a series this is! If you haven’t heard about Steven Universe, you are missing out! This show has it all, and it is refreshingly progressive for a children’s show covering a wide range of topics such as; grief, same sex relationships, and death to name a few.

The show was created by Rebecca Sugar, the former storyboard artist another Cartoon Network animated series, Adventure Time. She was also the storyboard artist 2012 computer animated feature film, Hotel Transylvania. On top of all of that she also produces the songs for the  show…which are awesome!!!

Fangirl Moment: Mirai Sentai Timeranger

TGIF and Happy Friday the 13th! Here we are again with another Fangirl Friday! This week I’m doing something that’s one part childhood nostalgia and one part full blown otaku… The Super Sentai Series!

For those of you unfamiliar with the Super Sentai series,  here’s a brief overview… Super Sentai is the name of a long running Japanese superhero themed television series, following the exploits of the Super Sentai who protect the balance between good and evil. Teams members typically wear different colored suits and have a corresponding theme tied to their powers. Teams usually consists of five members, but there have been smaller teams. The Super Sentai use an arsenal of weapons to take down baddies, but what they are most known for are their giant Mecha, which they use to battle enemies, usually during their final showdowns! Oh yeah…and did I mention that the Super Sentai series is the inspiration for the Power Rangers? No, maybe I should have started off with that… Currently there are 40 different Super Sentai shows.

Fangirl Moment: Miraculous Ladybug

*This is going to be short*

I LOVE THIS SHOW! I found out about this show a few weeks ago on Tumblr, I will admit I was late as usual….But that is besides the point, what does matter is that I found it! Miraculous Ladybug (aka Miraculous, aka Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir) is a French CGI animated television series. Ladybug is an international collaboration between several well known animation companies from France, South Korea, and Japan (there are a couple of others too).

The series is set in Paris, France and follows the exploits, Marinette Dupain-Cheng, a normal junior high girl, and Adrien Agreste, her crush/classmate as they protect the city from supernatural villains. When evil strikes the pair become the crime fighting masked heroes, Ladybug and Cat Noir (Chat Noir), armed with their Miraculous charms. Despite their partnership, neither lead knows the other’s secret identity, which leads to a mixed up romance a la Sailor Moon. The show is episodic, with the big bad Hawk Moth creating a new villain of the week, so it doesn’t really matter which episode you start on.

Ladybug is what we need right now, a strong and confident female hero series that will appeal to both boys and girls (and adults 😛 ). The show is light and fun, and definitely worth a watch (and the Opening is catchy as heck)!
