Switch Indie Games You Should Be Playing

My Switch has become my go to gaming platform, it’s affordable, portable, and it’s the new hub for otome games now that the Vita is officially dead (though it’ll live on in my heart forever). But, what makes the Switch the stand out console for me is the variety of games in it’s ever growing library, which in the last few years has included a lot more indie games. From platformers to RPGs to visual novels, more and more indie titles are finding a home on the console.

There are a lot of games to sort through, which can be a bit daunting, so I wanted to spotlight a handful of indie games I think are worth picking up if you’re looking for something new to play on the Switch!

When The Past Was Around is a Beautifully Bittersweet Point-and-Click Adventure

Emotive and poignantly beautiful, Mojiken Studio’s point and click adventure, When The Past Was Around is a game that stays with you long after you’ve reached it’s conclusion. Beneath it’s gorgeous visuals and soothing soundtrack hides a bittersweet, tale of love, loss, and learning to move on. Follow Eda through a surreal world disjointed rooms solving puzzles, as you piece together her fragmented memories and uncover the truth behind her relationship with her enigmatic lover, The Owl.

When The Past Was Around is not one of the flashier indie titles to make it’s way to the Nintendo Switch, and yet it is it’s unassuming air that makes it stand out from the rest of the console’s indie lineup. It’s a straightforward puzzle adventure game that doesn’t rely on gimmicks to convey its story. Instead the game is completely devoid of dialogue, letting the gorgeous hand-drawn visuals and soothing instrumental tracks tell the story of Eda and her enigmatic lover.

Thrifty Gaming: Games That Won’t Blow Your Budget #75

Hey Blerdy Tribe! It’s Thrifty Thursday!!

In a world where it’s all about the almighty dollar, sometimes it’s a little tough to make our pennies stretch enough to accommodate our hobbies. But, there are plenty of ways to balance your budget while still enjoying the things you love, you just have to be a little thrifty about it. So, I created Thrifty Gaming in order to spotlight some lesser known indie titles that are both entertaining an affordable.

If you’re a new follower or someone who has been following since my Nice Job Breaking It Hero days and have been gone for awhile, here’s a refresher… Thrifty Gaming, is a weekly post series where I spotlight three games/visual novels that are under $10.00. These can be mobile games, PC games, and a few times I have found some nice indie console titles too. The list used to focus on just otome games and romance visual novels, but after requests from a few readers I have since expanded to other gaming genres. I don’t include sales or limited time offers, each title has to be consistently priced at $10.00 or less without any promotions to be included in this line up.

Note, these are not reviews, rather recommendations so your mileage may vary with some of these titles. This week’s post will include a brief synopsis and links to each game so you can add them to your gaming library! You don’t have to break the bank to enjoy your hobbies, so save a little bread and check this week’s thrifty gaming picks!
