Hey Blerdy Tribe, it’s another wonderful otome release day! This time around we are celebrating the release of 2022’s most anticipated otome game, Variable Barricade! Wealthy heiress, Hibari Tojo absolutely does not want to get married. But, fate has other plans for her when her eccentric grandfather saddles her with four handsome (and problematic) suitor. Her beaus include, a walking debt generator, a suspected gambling addict, a kept-man, and a man alleged to have participated in marriage fraud…one has to wonder what her grandfather is thinking?!

As her suitors try to win her hand by any means necessary, Hibari endures endless everyday trials and temptations. Despite their shady pasts, the more time she spends with them, the more she wonders if there is more to these men than meets the eye…

  • There are no choices in this path, but there are several CGs.
  • Finishing the After Story for the “Secret Character” will unlock the final Other CG.

General Tips:

  • All routes are available at the start of the game. True Barricade Board unlocks after you complete the best ends for all four suitors.
  • There are 4 types of endings: Marry End, Love End, Bad End, and Another End
  • You can play the character routes in any order, though saving Ichiya Mitsumori just before the True end makes for a nice story progression.
  • You should unlock all the RABI scenes by the end of the Common route without having to move it around manually
  • Your responses to the WHIS Messages don’t matter
  • Recommended Play Order: Nayuta Yagami ➤ Taiga Isurugi ➤ Shion Mayuzumi ➤ Ichiya Mitsumori ➤ True End

Variable Barricade (Spoiler Free Review) – First Impressions

In 2020, Aksys Games announced three new otome game localizations for 2021 and of the three titles, rom-com, Variable Barricade is the game the otome community has most been looking forward to playing. Unfortunately while the other 2020 announcements made their debut last year, VariBari‘s localization was pushed back to to this year. Well it’s 2022 and while the game doesn’t come out until February 24th, thanks to the folks at Aksys Games, I’ve had the chance to play the game early and lets just say I have some thoughts!

I’m still playing the game (I’ve completed the common route and I’m partway through my first route), so there won’t be any spoilers (yay!). These are just my first impressions of the game before I get in too deep~

Olympia Soiree, Dairoku: Ayakashimori, and Variable Barricade coming to the West in 2021

Y’all more otome news!! Aksys Games confirmed that they are releasing not one, three new otome game localizations for the Nintendo Switch in 2021!! As if we needed another reason for 2021 to hurry up and get here…Olympia Soiree, Dairoku: Ayakashimori, and Variable Barricade are all making their way to the west next year!

I am super excited, especially for Variable Barricade—which if you’ll remember from Twitter was on my otome localization wishlist~

Because I know you guys are just as excited as I am, here is a brief overview of the three upcoming releases:

Olympia Soiree

Synopsis

With her entire clan wiped out years ago, Olympia has been isolated for most of her life. Now she lives as the only person on Tenguu Island who can perform the ritual that restores light to a world shrouded in darkness. The heads of each Primary district—Red, Blue, and Yellow—lead a society governed by the island’s rigid class structure. As Olympia travels between the districts, she discovers their wonders and their weaknesses, as well as an entire underground community of shunned individuals whom she becomes determined to help. If she can find the person destined to be her soulmate, she will finally be able to open her heart and reveal her true name, continue her bloodline, and save the world before it is destroyed.

One of the last of her clan, Olympia seeks to perform a ritual to return light to a darkened world. Struggling within this society’s strict class system, she must find a partner to help her bring unity to the land.
