Hey Blerdy Tribe! I had the chance to chat with Tanya and Emily of the indies studio, Best Laid Plans–the team behind the upcoming isekai villainess otome, Save the Villainess! The team gives the goods on their debut title and what it’s like being an indie game developer in the latest Behind the Games interview!
Best Laid Plans Productions, Inc. is led by two women who love villainesses and interactive roleplaying games. With the help of a number of wonderful collaborators, they are excited to bring Save the Villainess and the land of Carcosa to life.
About Best Laid Plans

It took me awhile, but I listened to the dev interview (great job!) and played the demo. What a phenomenal piece of art! During the interview, I was impressed with the amount of careful thought put into crafting the game and its narrative. All that work shines through an exceptional demo. From the background music and art to the UI and writing, every element is polished to a shine. The mystery is a multilayered intrigue, and the Haunting of Hill House vibes are On Point. Lady Jane is a brilliant protagonist, who is insightful and silly in turns. I full-on guffawed multiple times. The investigation mechanics were super fun and made this VN stand out. I’ve been on the hunt for VNs with more active mechanics, and Save the Villainess is just what the doctor ordered. The animation sometimes seemed overmuch, but I remind myself that Hill House is supposed to be disorienting and put its visitors on the back foot. Plus, the devs put a content warning for vertigo. Overall, I’m really happy that my partner and I already Backed the Kickstarter. I wish the devs the best as they continue to make good art. Some night, Servant…you will be mine… <3
