Hakuoki is Finally Coming to the Switch!
Well, it’s happened—Hakuoki is now in the running for the game with the most localizations under its belt. This has to be one of the most re-released otome titles in the west, making the journey from the PSP to the Switch. Hakuoki is the gateway otome for many in the fandom and its constant re-releases over the years speaks to it’s longevity within the otome community. The limited edition looks phenomenal, with some great merch befitting such an iconic series.
I am excited to see that new gamers will have the chance to enjoy this “definitive” version of the game on the Switch… but, I can’t help but wish maybe we could also get a fresh Hakuoki localization. Maybe, and I’m just spit ballin here, Hakuoki Sweet School Life?
Will you be getting Hakuoki: Chronicles of Wind and Blossom when its released?

As a big Hakuoki fan, I’m really happy. I do because this means there’ll be more people who can enjoy the game. But…I’m already satisfied with having the PS Vita version of the game, so I’m gonna skip this one. Plus, I very much prefer that they localize all the FDs and SSL. Oh, there are lots of game FDs that haven’t been localized! DX
Squee! I have been a Hakuoki fan for soooo many years. I have all 3 games for various devices, but to hear it is FINALLY coming to switch?!?!?! I am SO EXCITED!!!!! I will be getting it on release day. ♡♡♡♡
2024 is once again proving to be the year of more otome games! My only complaint about that is with my wallet…especially with hyped JP releases like Matsurika no Kei, Utakata no Uchronia, etc.
I do have mixed feelings about this localization. Like many others, Hakuoki was my first otome that I completed (2009!), so it does invoke nostalgia.
I can’t remember exactly how the routes went and my feelings about them, but in general, I can’t say it’s amazing, because I do recall some of the routes dragging and that the MC was meh.
Although I’m not too keen on replaying some of the slower routes, I am excited to finally be able to play the newer LIs (and replay my boy Saito and Harada). I just completely skipped over the PS Vita (the only Sony consoles I own are PS2 and PSP 1000 😅). I even put off the Switch until Covid hit, so I’m super behind in everything 🥲
So happy this popped up randomly on my news feed. Would’ve never known I could finally have a physical copy, let alone a limited edition, of winds and blossoms. Surely better/more consistent font as well compared to the steam releases ;v;)/
Yay!! Glad you saw this post! LOL here’s hoping this localization is worthy of a game as iconic as Hakuoki!
I’m a big fan of Hakuouki’s series, even though nowadays a lot of people criticize protagonists like Chizuru, nowadays I’m still in love with her. I’m really excited about the launch, I hope this year brings even more Otomes games. I hope I can also enjoy the Hana Awase series this year, I played the PC version in Japanese and the last two titles are my favorites in the series.
Hakuoki is one of those games that everyone should play, it’s an otome rite of passage lol.
Here’s to more otome in the future!
I’m planning on playing a bit of Hana Awase this year too, but I’m probably going to take my time with it since there are four games. What did you think of it from what you played in Japanese?
Hana Awase is a little ‘confusing’ in each game due to the fact that each one goes through a different “line”, which is why each game is focused on one main guy and the others are secondary and thus take turns. Part of the cards there is more of a gameplay to take a break from reading so much, but it’s nothing very complex (mainly because the music they play is very good!), Mikoto (protagonist) is very involved in the story and not simply thrown randomly into the story situation, it’s very interesting how each game ends up complementing the story of the other, I highly recommend it!
Okay! Thank you! This kind of put some things in perspective for me. I did think it was weird to release it as 4 different games instead of one title, but I see it serves a narrative purpose to do it that way.
