While I was at Anime NYC the NU: Carnival team finally revealed the details of their collaboration with Japanese boys love publisher, Nitro Chiral, and y’all it’s Dramatical Murder! Yes, y’all read that right, the NU: Carnival x Dramatical Murder Collab is happening! Originally released in Japan in 2012, Dramatical Murder is arguably the single most iconic boys love series ever, and to see Aoba and his harem of problematic baes in something new in 2026 is EVERYTHING I could have dreamed.
In case you have been living under a rock, NU: Carnival follows Eiden, a sex toy developer who is isekai’d to the magical world of Klein where he must bring balance to the elemental spirits. How will he do this? By sharing his essence with men from each of the elemental clans, by f*cking them~ When it was released six love interests were available (Yakumo, Edmond, Quincy, Kuya, Garu, and Olivine) alongside familiars Aster and Morvay. Later the team expanded the cast by introducing Blade, Dante, Rei, and Rin.
Two years after it’s release in 2024, the team even released NU: Carnival Bliss, a safe for work version of the game. There is no denying the impact the game has had on the BL space, in just a short time, NU: Carnival quickly became one of the most popular new BL apps out there!
But, ten years before that was Dramatical Murder, and if it wasn’t for DMMD, there would be no NU: Carnival. Aoba and friends walked so that so many other games could run!
But, for those of you uninitiated, Dramatical Murder is a cyberpunk boys love visual novel that follows Aoba a junk shop employee as he is dragged into a struggle against an evil corporation, local gangs, and an island of people just trying to live their lives! This is a story that blurs the line between the virtual world and the real world as Aoba and his friends fight to hold on to their peaceful lives in the face of corporate corruption. In the game there are four love interests (Koujaku, Noiz, Clear, and Mink), as well a secret romance route (the goodest boy ever). Known for its gorgeous visual design and shall we say “dramatically” horrific bad ends, Dramatical Murder is one of the most iconic boys love series of all time!
A bit of a Blerdy lore drop, Dramatical Murder was my first ever boys love game and the first game I ever reviewed here on Blerdy Otome! This was back when all we had were fan patches and a prayer if we wanted BL games to play (it wasn’t until 2021 that we got the official JAST localization). Dramatical Murder is the title that started my Fujo gamer journey and I have mad love for these characters and this world, so to say I am just hyped for this collab is an understatement; this just made my year! I miss my boys, especially Noiz~ and I can’t wait to see them again in this new collab!
This might be the reason I dive back into the gacha hell that is NU: Carnival again. I am very vocal about my feelings regarding mobile gacha games and their, questionable relationship with my money and time. But, I did play NU: Carnival when it was released in 2022 (back when you had to patch that ish on your phone and there was no warning before the the fully voiced threesome sex scene).
I was drawn in by the gorgeous visuals, unique fantasy isekai story, and of course the promise of uncensored fully voice and animated H-scenes. Unfortunately, my frustrations with gacha gameplay mechanics and miserable event pulls finally won out and I dropped the game a year and a half in.
So, this new collaboration with Nitro Chiral is the perfect thing to pull me back into the NU: Carnival world, because of the sheer love and nostalgia I have for the DMMD series (though the anime is trash, don’t let anyone lie and say it’s good, because it is diabolical the way they butchered that anime). While, this may be nostalgia bait, I don’t care, the NU: Carnival team knew exactly what they were doing with this collab and I plan to eat it up. I also, hope we get merch, because I would find the coin to throw at them for it.
With this new collaboration the boys of Dramatical Murder will be joining the NU: Carnival cast for a new fully voiced main story. The original VAs will be reprising their roles bringing even more nostalgia to this new experience.

The NU:Carnival team has been slowly unveiling details about the collab on their socials since it was officially revealed on August 22nd. However, fans can check out the NU: Carnival x Dramatical Murder collab teaser site which includes a story synopsis, trailer video, and character bios for both casts. I cannot wait to see what other reveals are to come from this collab! I’ll definitely be dusting off my old account, because there is no way I am missing out on more DMMD content!
