Let’s Look at the Otome Gamer Pins
So, I first came across these pins back when the creator, Allison C.M. launched a Kickstarter campaign to help raise funding for the production of the pins—which made 2x the campaign goal! I will readily admit that I’m not much of a pin collector (or fandom merch in general), but I gotta say, these are some pretty cute pins! There are two in the set: the Happy Otome Gamer and Otome Gamer Controller pins.
Pin Dimensions
Size: 2 inches
Color: Rose Gold
Metal: Iron
Not gonna lie, these pins were a bit bigger than they appear in the pictures coming in at 2 inches each. The Happy Otome Gamer pin especially feels pretty huge—it’s much longer and wider than the Controller pin, though technically they’re roughly the same size. Because of this there are two securing pins on the back to ensure they stay put if you decide to stick them on a bag or something more mobile.
The designs are cute and I love the rose gold metal finish because I’m a sucker for anything rose gold, and it goes well with the pastel color pallet of the enamel. There were no bubbles or cracks in the enamel and the softer colors are very pleasing to the eyes—I especially like that each pin has a bit of glitter added to the design to give the pin a bit more flare! Also, each pin has an imprint of the artist’s logo on the back.
Of the two pins, I have to say that the Controller pin is my fave, a controller is just the universal symbol of gamers and given how otome gamers are often seen as “casual gamers” it’s kind of validating—It’s like “look at me, I’m a gamer too” and whether that was the intent or not, it’s still a really nice touch.
On the other hand, the Happy Otome Gamer pin is cute, buuuut, it’s not my fave of the set. The pin depicts a blue haired otome girl, and it is adorable. But, I think I would have liked it more if the pin had alternate designs to represent the diversity that exists in the otome games community. I get that that would probably raise production costs for the artist, so I don’t fault Allison for having one specific design, but it’s definitely something I’d love to see in the future~
