In a world where the fae-touched fall prey to a sinister killer, only a faeologist can uncover the truth. A dark academia murder mystery narrative game inspired by Strange Horticulture and the Ace Attorney series. Death & Faeology is set in New York city in the 1920s, incorporating mythical elements, such as faeries and their magic, into the story and puzzle. Players can use investigation tools on the evidence and interview key characters, to solve the case. They will also be presented choices throughout the game that will lead to certain endings, including romantic endings with particular characters.
Death & Faeology-Prologue was made for Spooktober VN Jam 2024. This is a prologue episode intended as the first demo of the full, much-longer game, information on which will be announced at a later date.
The current demo (ver. 0.1.6) includes five different endings, 2 epilogue variations, two CGs, various gameplay optimization, and visual improvements, in comparison to the older version
About Death & Faeology
In the New York 1920s, bizarre murders were happening across the upper echelons of New York society. Whispers in the shadows speak of malevolent faeries and their reality-twisting magic. But which one is the killer? …and why? The line between myth and murder has never been thinner.
You are a Faeologist, a renowned expert in a relatively recent science of faeology that investigates faeries & fae folk through research. This field is, however, still looked down upon by other academic fields, as sightings of fae and brushes with fae magic are somewhat uncommon. But you know their existence to be true, as you have Oz, your faerie companion, always by your side.
In day-to-day life, you work as a professor in a University while doing research on the side, supported by a wealthy patron that you exchange letters with almost daily. One day, a detective who also happened to be your ex-fiancé came knocking on your door bearing several murder cases of bizarre deaths that seem to be connected. A corpse’s body seemingly hardened into bony tissue overnight, for one. Humans could not have done this, but this is very possible for a Faerie. It is now your turn to apply what you have found in your research and catch the real murderer.

Play as a Genderless protagonist with a customizable name. Choose between rekindling your past romance with the detective (M), indulging in the mature charm of your patron (M), nurturing a gothic romance with the assistant (F), straying your childhood friend (F) into an intoxicating love, or simply being contented with yourself.

Interview key characters: You can ask some characters if they know anything about the evidence that you selected and dragged to them.
