Okay, Day 19 of the 30 Day Anime Challenge and at first I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to answer this question. I actually had to think back through all of the anime series that I’d watched over the years for the perfect scene. After a few days of thinking, it hit me!
I went back to one of the first anime series I’d ever watched, for this prompt, one of the most dramatic anime series that I’ve ever seen. This is one of those scenes that is so over the top and dramatic that it winds up being hilarious! I can’t tell you guys how many times I have replayed this scene over the years and I still manage to laugh every single time! In fact the hardest decision I made for this prompt was whether to pick the English dub of the clip or the English subs. So my pick for the most epic anime scene is…
The potato chip scene from the 2006 anime series, Death Note! Yeah, I went there… Anyone that has seen Death Note knows just how over the top this series can be, so it was hard to settle on just one scene for this post. Because they are all so dramatically epic, in the end I settled on the most iconic scene. This scene is one of the most unintentionally hilarious scenes I have ever seen in an anime! Never have I seen someone eat a potato chip with so much righteous conviction as Light does in this clip.
Death Note is just one of those series that just goes above and beyond the call of duty in the drama department. Everything is overly dramatic and at times the complex cat and mouse game between “serial killer” Light Yagami and detective L can be a bit… daunting for most viewers. But if you can sit through all of the convoluted traps and schemes, Death Note is a truly amazing series.
