First, Happy 4th of July!! Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get on with the rest of the challenge… Somehow I feel like Day 3 and 4 should be combined… especially since I have a hard time writing at length on prompts like this. But, what are you gonna do? When I first saw this prompt, there were two leading ladies that first came to mind, two very different, but equally awesome leading ladies who could easily top any list. So, let’s just say that I had a hard time choosing between them. I kind of rectified the situation by using one of them during another day instead since that prompt was a much better fit for her….
So for my pick… this leading lady, lives life to the beat of her own drum. Sure she can be selfish and self serving, but who isn’t? She knows how to look out for number one, and she doesn’t care how many people she has to step over to reach her goals. Plus she ate dog food, how badass is that?! So, My favorite female anime character is…
Yup, the fugitive bounty hunter, Faye Valentine from the 1998 anime, Cowboy Bebop! This little lady is the galaxy’s most wanted, on account of the 6,000,000 woolong bounty on her head, so she’s no stranger to unwanted attention. But, Faye also gets her fair share of solicited attention too, she’s the kind of woman guys love and women want to be like.
She is no stranger to the ways of the world, like the other members of the Bebop crew, she has had her fair share of hardships and misfortune. But, she doesn’t let that get her down much, this woman doesn’t just survive, she thrives! With her looks and independent attitude, Faye knows how to look out for herself, it’s a dog eat dog world out there, and Ms. Valentine knows exactly how to play the game.
I guess the reason I like Faye so much is because she’s such a fighter and she doesn’t care what she has to do to make it… Prior to the show she was in an accident that took the lives of her parents and caused serious damage to her body. But, because the technology of the time wasn’t advanced enough to treat her condition they put her in cryo freeze until medicine could advance enough to treat her. When she’s finally defrosted 54 years later, everyone she knows is dead, she has no memories of her past, and she’s been saddled with a ridiculous amount of medical debt. Instead of crumbling under pressure, she does what she does best… she looks out for number one!
Faye is a street smart woman and a capable pilot. She knows when to be a lady and when to kick ass! Sure she has a ton of flaws and vices, but she always remains true to herself, no matter what comes her way and that’s why I love Faye! At times her relationships with the other members of the Bebop can be a tiny bit antagonistic, but you can be sure that when it counts she definitely pulls her weight.
