TGIF! Here we are again with another Fangirl Friday! So I have a confession to make, I had a really hard time coming up with a topic for this week’s Fangirl Moment post. There was so much going on with school that I almost cancelled this week’s post altogether…but then it came to me…K-drama…I could write about another K-drama. So here we are covering another one of my favorite K-dramas: Lie to Me!
The show follows a civil servant, Gong Ah-jung (played by Yoon Eun-hye), who works in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. One day at the hairdresser’s she runs into her high school frenemy, who brags about her perfect life and husband. Not wanting to be shown up, Ah-jung lies and says that she too is happily married to an amazingly handsome and rich man. But the little white lie takes on a life of its own, spreading beyond Ah-jung and her friends to the world of elite businessmen. Soon everyone seems to think that Ah-jung is the wife of a prominent young hotel owner, Hyun Ki-joon (played by the dreamy Kang Ji-hwan).
Hyun Ki-joon (I just love the way his name sounds), determined to get to the bottom of the rumors, finds Ah-jung and forces her to tell the truth. But, when the time comes for her to fess up, she makes things even worse much to the disgust of Hyun Ki-joon. He threatens to sue her for her indiscretion, but our hapless protagonist is saved from trouble by a series of events that force the pair to carry on the charade. Both agree that the pretend marriage will be equally beneficial, at least for the time being…But what kind of K-drama would this be without a little drama? Enter Hyun Ki-joon’s beautiful Ex-fiance and younger brother! Can a little white lie lead to true love?
I love this drama! It was one of the first K-dramas I ever watched and I still find myself going back to it from time to time. In typical rom-com fashion, the plot is over the top and the character antics are ridiculous, but I can’t help but love every minute of it! Kang Ji-hwan is wonderful as the prim and proper Hyun Ki-joon (or as I like to call him Hunky-joon), and Yoon Eun-hye, was definitely in her element as the bumbling civil servant Ah-jung!
Now this drama did give a bit of second lead syndrome…The younger brother, Hyun Sang-hee (played by Sung Joon) was so adorable! He gave me life! He was so fun loving and sweet that I couldn’t help but smile every time he appeared in a scene. But, alas he was no match for the dashing Hyun Ki-joon…Overall, the story is nice, with just enough drama and romance to keep you satisfied until the last episode…I highly recommend this series, it was truly a delight from start to finish!
Like Personal Preference, this drama had it’s own memorable kiss scene: the Cola Kiss! No words…just watch it!
