Melanin Monday: My Top 5 Favorite Black Female Anime Characters

Hello all you wonderful Heroes and Travelers, it’s Black History Month here in the States, and I wanted to do something to celebrate it here on Nice Job Breaking It, Hero! As a Black nerd, I love it when I see characters that look like me in anime, on tv, and in video games. But, more times than not, they’re reduced to side characters or insulting stereotypes, so I want to use this month to highlight a few outstanding black and brown skinned characters. So every Monday from now until the end of the month, will be hence forth known as Melanin Monday!! As of right now this is just a one month thing, but if you guys like it, I might be persuaded to extend it!

So for my first Melanin Monday’s post, I wanted to write about five of my all time favorite Black female anime character!! Each of these beautiful brown sistas, are phenomenal women that shine in their respective anime series! Because I think all the ladies on this list are fantastic, this won’t be a ranked list, I love them all equally!!

Oh, before I kick things off, I want to say a huge thank you to Hazel of Archi-Anime for making the super special awesome Melanin Mondays banner!! She did a fantastic job with it and I can’t thank her enough for doing it on such short notice!! *hugs*

If you all didn’t already know this, I’m a huge fan superhero films and comics. So when I saw that Netflix was teaming up with Marvel to bring another comic book hero to the small screen I was ready. But, when I saw that they were going to give the Blaxploitation era superhero, Luke Cage (aka. Power Man) his own series, let’s just say the premiere couldn’t come soon enough!

Chronotopia- Demo Review

Chronotopia  is an upcoming commercial visual novel from French developers Träumendes Mädchen. The game features aspects of both visual novels and point-and-click games and borrows elements from the French fairytale, Donkeyskin by Charles Perrault. Upon it’s release the game will be available for Windows, Mac, and Linux in both English and French. The developers are also working on getting the game greenlit for Steam.

The young Donkeyskin lives a peaceful existence in her castle, enjoying her days with her best friend and confidant, Nahima. That is until her father, gone mad since the death of his beloved, decides he should wed the princess instead. Donkeyskin has to find a way to escape from this fate, but how? She doesn’t know it yet, but it’s the beginning of a long nightmare that will take her to the edge of madness…”

Mini Review- Astoria: Fate’s Kiss

So as many of you may know Astoria: Fate’s Kiss is the sequel/second season of Voltage Inc’s urban fantasy romance game, Labyrinths of Astoria

Now that Season 1 has come to a close, in preparation for our second season, we’d like to announce a name change, from “Labyrinths of Astoria” to “Astoria: Fate’s Kiss”! Love can be like like a labyrinth – first, you have to fight your way through challenges to be with the one you love! So then, the next stage is up to fate! (。•̀ᴗ-)✧

Voltage/AmeMix

I am so hyped and I’ve only played the prologue! Let me start off by praising Astoria Fate’s Kiss and Voltage for including POC, and for those who don’t know that is “People of Color“, as characters in the game! It is refreshing to see characters of all shades and hues as side characters and main characters! I mean holy Hera, even Zeus, the king of the gods is black, and not kinda Black, he’s Black, Black! Like a chocolate dipped dream! Yes! It is so rare to see POC characters in otome, and I for one hope that Voltage USA, keeps it up with their future AmeMix releases!

great job
