My Lover is the Master Swordsman of the Shinsengumi- Era of Samurai: Code of Love- Soji Okita

When I first saw Soji Okita in the prologue, he scared me a bit. He just looks like someone who’d kills indiscriminately, but after playing Hijikata’s route my opinion changed. He seemed like a genuinely okay, if not a little too playful, guy, so when Voltage released his story earlier than expected I decided to buy it.

I take it back…I take back all of the cruel things I said about this guy, he was a much better character than I originally anticipated. I loved Soji in Hakuouki so I was expecting Voltage’s version to pale in comparison, but what I got was a heartbreakingly sweet portrayal of a very tragic character. There is definitely more to this cold swordsman than his reputation would have you believe.

My Lover is the Demon Deputy of the Shinsengumi- Era of Samurai: Code of Love- Toshizo Hijikata

No matter which adaption of the Shinsengumi story you play, Hijikata is always the same, so I kind of knew what to expect from Hijikata before I even started this route. Well Voltage did not disappoint, he turned out exactly as I would imaging the Vice-commander of the Shinsengumi to be.

Toshizo Hijikata is the terrifying right hand man and friend of Shinsengumi leader Isami Kondo. His cold stare and commanding battle prowess have earned him the nickname Demon Deputy among the Shinsengumi men. He is a man of honor an dignity, willing to do whatever it takes for the Shinsengumi, even if it means sacrificing something he holds dear. But is that all there is to the Demon Deputy? What does Hijikata the man want?

[First Thoughts] Era of Samurai: Code of Love

*Well, Voltage forced my hand on this one, so I’m posting this earlier than I expected, to make room another review next week…*

So, finally Voltage has decided to jump on the Shinsengumi bandwagon with their newest release; Era of Samurai: Code of Love. I have no idea why they saw fit to replace Shinsengumi with Samurai, at this point in the game it’s not like Western audiences are unfamiliar with the Shinsengumi especially with the Hakuoki series still dominating the western otoge market… But, I’m sure they had their reasons…

I have played a couple of games featuring the Shinsengumi, some were really good…and others not so much, so I’m really curious to see what kind of spin Voltage plans on putting on the historical samurai romance premise (that they didn’t already cover in Sakura Amidst Chaos/ Samurai Love Ballad).

Fangirl Moment: Blue Morning

TGIF! Here we are again with another Fangirl Friday! This week I’m doing something for all of my BL/Yaoi Fangirls out there…Today I’m going to cover the yaoi manga, Blue Morning. This post will be SAFE FOR WORK…There will be absolutely NO NSFW images in this post, so rejoice (or curse my name), this post can be read in public without consequence!

I’ve said this before, but it is extremely rare that I pick up an ongoing series. They are just more trouble than they’re worth, and I end up forgetting about them anyway due to huge gaps between updates. In order for me to even think about picking up an ongoing series, the plot has to be on point, something that I won’t easily forget between releases… But the true test of an ongoing series is whether or not I will also spend money on it! I don’t throw my money around lightly, so I certainly won’t bother buying a manga series until it’s complete…  I have been burned one too many times in the past (looking at you Tokyopop), so I am extremely picky about which manga series I buy. So for me to not just read an ongoing series, but go so far as to purchase it as well, says a great deal about my opinion of the series…. I have made that exception only four times to date, and Blue Morning was one of them!
