TGIF! Here we are again with another Fangirl Friday! This week I’m covering a manga that’s just so bad it’s good. There are so many reasons to hate this manga, unnecessary angst, drama, questionable romantic relationships, just to name a few, but for some reason I can’t bring myself to condemn it and believe me I tried! I’m talking about the shoujo manga, Hot Gimmick by Mika Aihara!
I have never read a manga so problematic before in my life, but there’s a beauty to it, albeit a twisted and rather cringe worthy kind of beauty… This manga is like watching a really bad soap opera or those telenovelas, you just have to see where all the madness leads, even if a little piece of your soul dies in the process.

TGIF! It’s been a long week, but here we are again with another Fangirl Friday!! Last week I covered a hilarious video that spoke to my fangirl heart like no other video before it, and this week I’m going to switch gears a bit. With the inauguration on the horizon, I wanted to pay tribute to the outgoing president, Mr. Barack Hussein Obama II.
Say what you will about the man and his policies, but at the end of the day he was a class act from his first day to his last and I will truly miss having him as Commander in Chief of the United States of America. So, in this very special Fangirl Moment post, I’m gonna break from my usual topics and bring you all something a bit more real….

TGIF! Here we are again with another Fangirl Friday! Halloween is on Monday, so I decided to choose something that scared the crap out of me… As a kid this book was the cause of many sleepless nights, *ahem* so this week I’m covering the children’s book, The Tailypo: A Ghost Story retold by Joanna C. Galdone and illustrated by Paul Galdone.
Yeah…yeah, laugh it up! Ya’ll don’t understand how horrifying this story was to little elementary school me… I had to sleep with the lights on for weeks after I first read this book, because I started having nightmares about the Tailypo coming to get me. But, instead of just returning the book to the library like any sane person would do, I decided to keep checking the damn thing out like a dummy. Yes, you read that right, I kept checking the book out year after year, even though the story terrified me! I was a glutton for punishment… So, I want to share with you all the story that haunted my childhood nightmares!

TGIF! Here we are again with another Fangirl Friday! This week I’m going to take a break from the usual Fangirl Moment topics and bring you another book post! For today’s post I’ll be covering one of my favorite books, Waiting by Ha Jin!
I originally stumbled upon this book years ago on my high school AP reading list. Back then the prospect of a summer reading list was not very appealing, especially for an AP Literature class.
So, I reluctantly braved the thick Atlanta heat for a trip to my local library, with the dreaded AP reading list in hand. After briefly scanning the list again, I mentally noted the most promising titles and began searching the packed shelves. I emerged with four books: One Hundred Years of Solitude, The Kite Runner, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and Waiting. I read all of them, except One Hundred Years of Solitude (I fell asleep on that one multiple times), but the book that left the biggest impression on me was Waiting. TGIF! Here we are again with another Fangirl Friday, and this week I’m covering the first book in the Dark Heroine Series, Dinner with a Vampire by Abigail Gibbs!
I don’t know if I mentioned this, but I used to work at a Barnes and Noble when I was an undergrad, sure I only worked in the cafe, but even that gave me access to some sweet discounts on books (and Starbucks drinks). But, the real perk, the one that made my two years there worthwhile, was the access to Advanced Reader Copies (ARCs) of upcoming books!
There were tons of them from various authors and genres, and they were all F-R-E-E! Every other day there would be a fresh stack of titles in the break room and if I got there early enough, I had my pick of the litter! I read so many awesome books working there, but one that really stuck out was a dark supernatural romance YA novel. I picked it up on a whim, briefly skimmed the summary on the back and after judging it mildly interesting, I tossed it into my employee locker. It wasn’t until a few weeks later that I actually read the book, but when I did I was hooked!
