My birthday is on September 10th, which is smack dab in the middle of Virgo season—August 23rd to September 22nd—and I thought it would be fun to spotlight a few otome guys that happen to share my astrological sign. Some of these guys I didn’t even know were Virgos and some of the guys I actually thought were Virgos turned out to be Libras…go figure.
For those of you that don’t know Virgo is the sixth astrological sign in the Zodiac and one of the three Earth signs. Virgos are described as being loyal, analytical, kind, hardworking, and practical. And from what I’ve seen about the guys on this list, they all embody quite a few of these characteristics.
Video games are becoming much more diverse, with more and more creators of color are setting out and starting their own studios, which in turn means more representative games. Upcoming titles, Ocean Pearls and Validate are both being developed by entirely BIPOC teams and feature characters of color in prominent roles. As a Black female gamer, I am thrilled with this shift towards diversity in games, because it provides greater storytelling opportunities and more visibility for people of color—particularly women of color!
So, I took about compiling a list of games featuring Black and Brown female leads! Since I am but one humble blogger, I took to Twitter to solicit help with this post and as always my followers more than rose to the occasion!
Hey Twitter! I am looking for indie romance games with Black or Brown female leads. Can you help a Sis out with some recommendations? pic.twitter.com/53i69pe3KD
Hey Hey Blerdy Tribe! August marks the 5th anniversary of this blog and over the years I have written quite a few posts (over 800 and counting). I’ve come a long way since my start in 2015, but I still like to look back at some of my earlier posts, it keeps me humble.
By 2016, I had started to come into my own a bit and there’s a lot more of a focus to my content–I started a couple of ongoing blogging segments (some of which are now retired) and I made a conscious effort to write more game reviews. So, let’s look back at some of my favorite posts from 2016!!
There was a nice mix of suggestions—some of the games I had played, some I hadn’t, but I decided to go with Meg’s (@PearlyShelves) choice—Lost in Secular Love. For those of you that aren’t familiar with the game, Lost in Secular Love is a chinese otome game developed by Yetu Games. In the game you play as Qiye, the daughter of a noble family that has fallen on hard times. Not wanting you to suffer, your mother sends you to a local temple in hopes of marrying one of the monks there, Zhi Kong.
I’m going to be honest I haven’t played this game so I know absolutely nothing aside from the fact that all of the love interests are monks… and there is just something kind of ironic about having an otome game that revolves around romancing monks… Trust me, this game is on my list, but this post is based solely on other reviews and character bios—it’s kinda more fun that way, doncha think?
Can you believe I’ve been blogging for five years?! I’ve come a long way since my Nice Job Breaking It Hero days and while I’m always looking towards the future, every now and again I like to take a look back and reflect on my past. So this year I’m going to share some of my favorite posts from every year I’ve been blogging!!
Kicking things off with 2015! I was just getting my start back then and I didn’t really have a “style” so to speak, so I just kinda wrote whatever popped into my head… with some interesting results.
Blerdy Otome is an otome games and visual novel review site that runs on Black Girl Magic and Dreams. While I mostly focus on romance themed games, I’ve been known to cover a wide range of nerdy and otaku themed topics.
So, step right up and prepare your heart! Let’s talk about otome games!!
