Indie dev, Rascal Devworks recently launched the Kickstarter campaign for their upcoming amare visual novel, Sigh of the Abyss. It’s a dark fantasy visual novel set in the Mediterranean, a romantic tale written in shadows and blood, with a heavy focus on roleplay, choices and relationships. The team launched the campaign to fund additional voice acting.

Story
You are the product of a bloody ritual; human in appearance, yet imbued with monstrous powers. The men and women that sacrificed their life for yours speak to you in whispers, beg you to put their spirits to rest. Will you acquiesce to them or will you defy them?
Characters
Your companions can be friends of convenience, confidantes, found family… or even lovers. As the plot progresses, so will romance—from glances and stolen touches to a confession… and beyond. Whose heart will you claim?
The four love interests will only flirt with you if your preferences are compatible. If you express an interest in women but not men, for example, Alpheon and Malec will only see you as a friend. You can change romantic preferences at any time during the game, or even forego romance altogether—it’s optional!
You will be able to customize the protagonist by picking her first name, determining her romantic preferences and assigning her Abyssal powers.
Key Features
- Customize the protagonist’s name and skills. Your choices will determine her temperament, and color certain interactions. A melancholic protagonist will act differently than a choleric one!
- A branching narrative with hard choices and terrible consequences. Traditional choices, personality answers and skill checks add depth and make every playthrough unique.
- Every arc of the overarching plot has expansive branches and dialogue trees, and the consequences of your actions will be felt by the city and its inhabitants.
- The four love interests will only flirt with you if your preferences are compatible. So there are options for romance and friendship interactions.
Kickstarter Campaign Details
So, the Kickstarter campaign launched on March 15, 2023 and is set to run until April 14, 2023! The campaign goal is $10,669 to help with the production costs of the game and English voice acting!
