Thrifty Gaming: Games That Won’t Blow Your Budget #86

Hey Blerdy Tribe! It’s Thrifty Thursday!! In a world where it’s all about the almighty dollar, sometimes it’s a little tough to make our pennies stretch enough to accommodate our hobbies. But, there are plenty of ways to balance your budget while still enjoying the things you love, you just have to be a little thrifty about it. So, I created Thrifty Gaming in order to spotlight some lesser known indie titles that are both entertaining an affordable.

If you’re a new follower or someone who has been following since my Nice Job Breaking It Hero days and have been gone for awhile, here’s a refresher… Thrifty Gaming, is a weekly post series where I spotlight three games/visual novels that are under $10.00. These can be mobile games, PC games, and a few times I have found some nice indie console titles too. The list used to focus on just otome games and romance visual novels, but after requests from a few readers I have since expanded to other gaming genres. I don’t include sales or limited time offers, each title has to be consistently priced at $10.00 or less without any promotions to be included in this line up.

Note, these are not reviews, rather recommendations so your mileage may vary with some of these titles. This week’s post will include a brief synopsis and links to each game so you can add them to your gaming library! You don’t have to break the bank to enjoy your hobbies, so save a little bread and check out this week’s thrifty gaming picks!

Shy Cuties Need Love Too: 5 Dandere Otome Guys

If you’re just joining the party, this is the fifth post in my Character Archetype series, where I spotlight five otome LIs from each of the major character archetypes. These posts are a complement to my Beginners Guide to Otome Games posts, particularly the one on Common Character Archetypes in Otome Games. There I give a very general rundown of the most common character archetypes that appear in otome games with a few examples of characters that fit each trope.

I know it’s been about a year since my last archetype post (my bad), last time around I covered one of my favorite character archetypes, Kuudere characters. Which you can check out by clicking the link: ‘A Little Tough Love: 5 Kuudere Otome Guys’. This time around I’m covering the cute and shy dandere character types!

The Basics: What Are Dandere?

Dandere comes from the Japanese word “danmari” (黙だんまり) meaning “silence”, and “deredere” (デレデレ), which means “lovey dovey”.  These characters are quiet and antisocial, and are often described as being emotionless. Dandere characters are often confused with the kuudere character type, as both archetypes describe characters that are perceived as being distant. When pushed a kuudere character has absolutely no problem talking, usually in a very direct manner. On the flip side, dandere characters will go out of their way not to talk and when they do talk, they become extremely flustered and it can be hard to make out what they’re saying.

The big take away from dandere characters is that their aloofness stems from their shyness. They are typically, very slow to open up to people, especially strangers and it can take quite some time for a dandere to warm up to a heroine. Dandere are often described as being gloomy and may have a low self-esteem.

Fangirl Friday – Heroes, Demon Daddies, and Manga Madness

Hey Blerdy Tribe, how’s your week been? We finally made it to Friday and let me tell you this has been one hell of a week, so ya girl is ready for the weekend! We have this big conference coming up at work next week, so there’s been a bit of an upswing in the amount of requests I’ve had to deal with at work and some of them range from the bizarre—like conspiracy theories about COVID-19 to the mundane—help logging into a member account. It’s a mixed bag, but it definitely makes the work day exciting! So, after a long day of adulting I like to spend my spare time doing things that help me de-stress… like fangirling~

Fangirl Friday isn’t a new feature, rather I’m taking an old segment and putting a bit of a spin on it! Instead of talking about just one topic, this’ll be a space for me to talk about all the stuff I’ve been getting into, ya know aside from playing games! And this week I’ve been catching up on some anime watching and buying manga to fill out my collection!
