Blerdy Otome Monthly Recap – April 2021

Hey there Blerdy Tribe! April has been really good to me—I got a promotion at work, which comes with a bit of a raise and at long last I finally have my gaming PC!! I have wanted this for so long and now that I have it I’ve been setting things up and moving stuff from my old tape covered laptop (the old girl put in some good work, but it’s time to retire her). Now that I have a proper setup, I’m going to start testing some recording see if I can start prepping for streaming and video content, finally make good on those new years goals!

Haikyuu Celebration

Also, I hit some very big milestones recently and during the month of May I’ll be celebrating in a VERY BIG way! So, be sure to keep your eyes out on May 3rd for the official announcement! Trust me, it’s gonna be huge!! But, before that, lets take a look back at the month of April here on Blerdy Otome!

Favorite April Post

I love video games, but even I get burned out on all the gameplay mechanics and strategy. Sometimes I just want to turn off my brain and play a game that makes me feel good—games where I can just sit back, relax, and enjoy some chill vibes. Sometimes we get so caught up on the destination that we don’t take the time to stop and enjoy the journey, so that got me thinking about some of the more wholesome visual novels out there. So I compiled a list of five games that are sure to brighten your day~

Reviews To Expect in May

I usually just go with the flow when it comes to content here on Blerdy Otome, so it’s kind of hard to pin down what to expect each month. I want to get better at sticking to a “schedule” so I thought it would be good practice to include a section with some of the reviews I plan to write during the upcoming month. Not only will this hold me accountable, but it will also give you all an idea of what to expect to see in the month ahead. Full disclosure, this is not a complete list and there’s a good chance things will change—this is more of a rough draft…

  • 2021 Nanoreno Games – Gonna keep plugging along with these Nanoreno 2021 game reviews. I’ve only scratched the surface of all the great submissions and I’ll just keep banging those out between other reviews and content!
  • Hadaka Shitsuji – Naked Butlers – Clearly I’m a masochist, because no matter what horrors this game throws my way I just keep coming back for more… Maybe I just need to see how bad this game can get and trust me it crosses a lot of lines… but I’m two and a half routes in and at this point I might as well finish what I started.

From Around the Reader

I’ve been taking time out to read posts from my fellow bloggers here on WordPress and these are some of the posts that I most enjoyed this month!! I highly recommend giving each of these posts a read and maybe check out some of their other posts as well!

How I Stopped Worrying and Got Into Visual Novels and Otome GamesDiary of a Gamer (Bliss Cast)

I am a lover of immersive stories, so of course I’m a huge fan of visual novels (especially otome games), and recently visual novels have been becoming much more mainstream in the gaming community… but, there are still some folks that don’t consider them “real games”. In Bliss Cast’s talks about how she overcame her own bias towards visual novels and otome games and came to really enjoy them!

Heroines I Want to DateFeminine Frenzy (Amanda)

Otome heroines have come a long way in recent years as a lot of writers have been moving away from the blank slate, self insert heroines of the past. Now heroines are much more engaged in the events of the story and sometime, they’re more likeable than the actual love interests. In her most recent post,  Mandy of Feminine Frenzy shares her three favorite otome heroines!

I Hear the Sunspot: Limit Manga Volumes 1-3 Series Review – Bloom Reviews (AM_Ziebruh)

The final volume of one of my favorite boys love manga series, I Hear the Sunspot was recently released and the finale was absolutely perfect! Bloom Reviews gives us an in depth look at the final three volumes, delving their likes and dislikes, and how characters with disabilities are portrayed throughout the series.

Autism Representation in Media: Some Recommendations – Sushi Rainbow (sushirainbow)

April is Autism Awareness Month and to celebrate, Sushi Rainbow has curated a list of media depicting the experiences of characters on the spectrum. From books to films, this is a great list for anyone looking for more representation in their media!

    1. You’re welcome! I loved the post, I definitely think we need more representative works so it was cool to discover some titles from your list! 😊

  1. hey, i’ve been playing royal alchemist lately and was wondering if you know about this game or if you were planning to play it or something
i really like your reviews and think one for royal alchemist would be cool, but it’s okay if you dont want to and stuff

    1. Hey Billy! Thanks for stopping by! 😊 Yes, I have Royal Alchemist–but I’ve only played a little of it, I have to be in the mood for stats raising stuff, so it might take me a bit to get back into it. But, I did see that there is going to be a sequel and I am super excited to see that!

  2. I’ve checked out some of your posts this month and they were great. You certainly exposed me to different games and it’s awesome with you caring about positive representation.

    1. Thank you for stopping by and for reading! I’m glad you were able to discover some new games! 😊 I always love to see good rep in games, it really makes the game that much more fun.

  3. Congrats on the great news, looking forward to that mysterious celebration you teased!
As for what you’ve currently playing, I’m also looking forward to your coverage of those NanoReno games. And Hadaka Shitsuji, wel… Haven’t played it, but I hope it’s the kind of trashy game you can at least extract fun from and are not simply suffeing thoughout. Oo

    1. Hey there!! Thank you for stopping by and commenting!! YES April was a good month for me, I hope you had a great month as well!

I AM SO EXCITED to reveal the “thing” I’ve been working on it for a few weeks and I am so glad everything was able to come together!

I love Nanoreno, because there are always so many interesting submissions and I’ve really enjoyed all the ones I’ve played so far!

Hadaka Shitsuji is definitely something else… it has a lot of problematic content that can be a bit hard to get through, but there are some moments that are so ridiculous that I can’t help but laugh–so this is going to be an interesting review once I finally finish (or rage quit) LOL

Gush about cute otome boys~
