Blerdy Otome’s Top Otome Openings

An opening theme is a great way to convey the tone of a game before players dive into the actual story. For Western otome fans, the opening trailer is the very first time we are exposed to a game and helps shape our opinion about an upcoming release. Sometimes it’s the only thing we have to go on—unless you know enough Japanese to read the official JP game pages, but for the rest of us in just a few moments, an otome opening can either make or break your experience before you even have the game in your hands. So, today I wanted to spotlight some of my favorite otome openings…

Hakuoki Kyoto Winds

Song Title: Ruri no Sorae

Artist: Aika Yoshioka

I’m not gonna lie, after years of Hakuoki releases, I was starting to get burned out on the series and then I saw the opening trailer for Kyoto Winds and that was all it took to get me back on the Hakuoki bandwagon.  Honestly, I don’t think I have ever really hated a Hakuoki OP, but Ruri no Sorae really seemed to capture the spirit of the series. I love that everything starts out in black and white before suddenly bursting into color as if you are being transported through time…

Period Cube ~Shackles of Amadeus~

Song Title: Ibara No Rakuen

Artist: Joelle

This opening is absolutely perfect, everything from the visuals to the lyrics are on point! There is a lot of movement in this opening which works well with the MMPORPG setting of the game and the music… I LOVE Joelle!  My feelings about Period Cube are pretty mixed, but after seeing this opening, I almost want to go back and replay the game again…

Norn9: Var Commons

Song Title: melee

Artist: Yanagi Nagi

Norn 9 Var Commons is another otome game that I have mixed feelings about, but this opening is just so light and hopeful, which is kind of what the game is about—hope. Here you have a group of superpowered teens on a mission to save the world, just trying to make the best of a not so great situation… and I think the lyrics really convey that sentiment.

Cafe Enchante

Song Title: Precious Places, Precious Faces

Artist: Oda Kaori

Everytime I hear this opening I can’t help but smile! It’s such a fun feel good song that conveys these nice warm slice-of -life vibes. Everything about this opening screams light airy everyday fun and I am here for it!  I know that Cafe Enchante isn’t out just yet but DAMN do I want this game!

Sweet Fuse ~At Your Side~

Song Title: Jet Coaster Rendezvous

Artist: Dasoku

Sweet Fuse is one of those early otome game localizations  that I fear will be lost to the sands of time—we need a re-release of this game… it’s just too much fun! But, this opening is just so full of manic energy much like the game itself, bright colors, explosions… it’s a fairly accurate snapshot of the game… and I really hope that one day… in the not too distant future we’ll see this game make the jump to the Switch

These are my fave otome game openings, so if you haven’t given these OPs a listen I totally recommend giving them a listen. But, I know there are so many amazing openings out there, so here is where I turn things over to you dear readers—What are some of your favorite otome game openings?

Thank you for reading and supporting Blerdy Otome!🙂

  1. I love Edo Blossoms’ OP. Such a cool song. I think my favorite though is UtaPri All Star with “Quartet Night”. It’s one of my most played songs.

Gush about cute otome boys~
