30 Day Haikyuu Challenge- Day 2: The Character I First Fell in Love With

I’m late… but it’s technically still the 2nd in my neck of the woods, so it’s okay. It’s Day 2 of the 30 Day Haikyuu Challenge, and today’s prompt is the character I first fell in love with.

haikyuu challenge

To be honest, I had to think really hard about this one, and before you guys say anything about Tsukishima, remember I spent the better part of the series hating the guy, so he will not be my pick for today’s post. Instead, after much deliberation, I decided to go with….

Shoyo_Hinata

I will admit that this is probably cliche as hell, but the character that I first fell in love with was, Hinata Shouyo. He’s the protagonist of the series, he’s a character viewers are supposed to like, but I didn’t expect to fall head over heels for the little guy from the very first episode… I didn’t want to like him, I really didn’t, but like all the characters in the series he managed to weasel his way into my heart and I was never really the same again.

For those of you not in the know, Hinata is one of Karasuno’s new first year volleyball recruits. Despite his small stature and general lack of volleyball skills, Hinata desperately wants to be a great player like his idol, the Little Giant. But, what he lacks in skill, he more than makes up for in raw athletic ability, Hinata posses extraordinary stamina, speed, and jumping ability, the latter of which always manages to amaze his teammates and opponents alike. Because of his height, Hinata mainly serves as the team’s decoy, though his official position on the team is middle blocker.

Look at how happy he is, doesn’t it just make you wanna smile?!

So, what was it that made me fall in love with Hinata? What could possibly be so special about a run of the mill shounen anime protagonist like Hinata Shoyo?! I wish my answer was something profound or life alteringly deep, but honestly, I fell in love with Hinata’s energy.

No matter what situation he’s in or what obstacles come his way, Hinata always manages to bounce back. But, that’s not all, Hinata gives everything he does (at least where volleyball is concerned) one hundred and ten percent, and his energy is contagious. When he smiles, you just can’t help but smile too… and when he cries… when he cries you want to give him a hug and tell him everything is going to be alright. He is just such a dynamic character, you can’t help but get swept up in the energy he exudes, whether he is running up and down the volleyball court or cheering his team on from the sidelines, Hinata is just a character you can’t help but look out for!

There are so many great characters in this series, it was hard to choose just one for this post. So, who is the first character you fell in love with in the series? Was it a Karasuno player or one of the players from the other teams? Let me know what you think in the comments section.
