Fangirl Moment: Bridget Jones’s Baby

TGIF! Here we are again with another Fangirl Friday! This week I’m going to talk about a movie I saw with a friend a few weeks ago! I meant to write this post earlier, but one thing lead to another…I’m making excuses,  today’s post is all about the third and final film in the Bridget Jones trilogy, Bridget Jones’s Baby!

Was this the best movie I’ve ever seen? Nope. Was this the best film of the year? Absolutely not! Was this even the best film in the trilogy? Not really. But, did I giggle like a schoolgirl when Colin Firth appeared on screen for the first time? You bet I did!

So why am I writing about this? Well, Bridget and her shenanigans (along with a healthy amount of Ben and Jerry’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream) have gotten me through some tough times in the past. I have fond memories of the first film (the second not so much) and to this day, I still watch the first film whenever I’m feeling especially down about something. So, when I heard that there was going to be a third and final film in the series, I couldn’t wait to buy my ticket!

*This post will contain some spoilers for the film, so proceed with caution!*

This ladies and gents is the end of the Bridget Jones era, and I am glad to say that this film gives the series a fitting conclusion (unlike that sorry excuse for a sequel Mad About the Boy). This film finds our favorite walking disaster single once again after splitting with her lover, Mark Darcy. But, this time around Bridget is much older and wiser and she embraces the single life by attending a music festival with her friend. And things seem to be going well for her when she finds herself in bed with Dr. McDreamy an unknown hottie played by Patrick Dempsey. Only to hook up with her ex, Mark Darcy, played by Colin Firth, a few days later at a christening ceremony for her friend’s child. After the two encounters, Bridget discovers that she is pregnant… and so begins a two hour game of who’s the daddy.

As a whole I liked the film and it tied the Bridget Jones saga up in a nice little bow, but I couldn’t help but feel like it was missing some of the magic of the first film. While I was ecstatic that Bridget finally got her happily ever after with on again off again lover Mark Darcy, I couldn’t help but feel that the sugary sweet ending was a little off. If I’m being completely honest, I would have preferred it if Bridget had remained single by the end of the film. Before you grab your torches and pitch forks, hear me out first…

The film makes a point of showing Bridget being comfortable as a singleton: she has a great job, great friends, and even after she finds out she’s pregnant things really aren’t that bad off. Even when she’s at her lowest two-thirds of the way through the film she still retains her usual degree of wit and charm that enamored audiences with her in the first place. If anyone could have pulled off being a single mom, it would have been Bridget Jones and I’m a little disappointed that we didn’t get to experience it.

But, like I said earlier, I didn’t hate the film (otherwise I wouldn’t be writing about it in the first place). For what it’s worth, Bridget Jones’s Baby is a fun ride from start to finish and a must see for fans of the first two films!!

Are you a fan of the Bridget Jones series? Have you seen Bridget Jones’s Baby? Who do you think is the father of Bridget’s baby, is it Dr. McDreamy or Mr. Darcy? 1. Had to skip most of this due to the spoilers but I do want to watch the first movie. I love rom coms! If you’ve never seen The Shop around the Corner I can’t recommend it enough. It’s what You’ve Got Mail was based on and it’s a short black and white film but it honestly was fantastic! XD

    1. OH MY GOD! Why have I not heard of that?! *Adds to list*

      I absolutely adore films like that! Like my TV stays on TCM lol!!

      You must Bridget Jones is a great rom-com, plus young Colin Firth is to die for!! <3

  2. I liked the first movie and felt it ended pretty good, so I never really got into watching the rest xD;;
    I agree that it’d have been better as a single mother, Bridget shines the brightest when she’s single after all!

Gush about cute otome boys~
