Seiyuu Danshi- Demo Review

Seiyuu Danshi is all about choice! In this upcoming 18+ BL visual novel the player takes control of an amateur seiyuu (voice actor) who likes to take things at his own pace. But, years of slacking off have finally caught up to our lazy protagonist (MC-kun) and he finds that his job is on the line… that is unless he wins the prestigious Seiyuu Awards. Follow MC-kun as he attempts to become one of Japan’s top seiyuus and maybe find love along the way!

It has been some time since the Kickstarter campaign for Seiyuu Danshi wrapped up and I am finally getting around to playing the demo… I’m terrible, I know, but better late than never!

[Funded] Let’s Support Legend of Rune an English BL Visual Novel/RPG

Edit (10/4): The Kickstarter for this game was successful at meeting its funding goal and six of the stretch goals. The final funding amount was $29,246 from 651 backers! The game now has a tentative release date of August 2017!

Okay, for once I’m not terribly late with this Kickstarter campaign!! This time I’m covering the upcoming BL visual novel from YesterJoy GamesLegend of Rune!! So what sets this game apart from the rest? Legend of Run combines the immersive story of a visual novel with the puzzles and technical elements of an RPG!

When I first saw this game floating around on Twitter, I was excited because we definitely need more BL visual novels on the market. But then after finding out that it was also part RPG, I nearly broke my laptop in my excitement! I have no doubt that YesterJoy Games’s  debut title, will make a huge splash in the visual novel community.

Sleepover- BL Game Review

Edit: A few months ago Black Monkey Pro disbanded, so Sleepover and all of there other content is no longer available for purchase, but feel free to still give this review a read! For the truely adventurous folks out there, I’m sure you can find a copy of the game online somewhere…

Sleepover is an 18+ PC BL visual novel from Black Monkey Pro an international BL artist circle. The game tells the story of Haruyuki Kano, a young man who has secretly been in love with his best friend, Sato Hideaki (Aki) since they were children. Not wanting to ruin their friendship, Kano has done his best to keep his feelings to himself. But when a freak rain storm forces Aki to spend the night at his house, Kano finds himself with a once in a lifetime opportunity. Will Kano finally tell Aki how he feels or will he be content being “just friends”? Whatever you choose, Aki and Kano’s relationship will never be the same again!

You asked for more BL, so here it is… The things I do for my fellow BL/yaoi fans out there… I kid, I actually bought this game a few months ago on a whim, but I never got around to playing it until now. There are two versions of the game: the Uncensored version which is $29.99 and the Censored version which is $14.99. So, if you are interested in the game, I strongly urge you to purchase it from Black Monkey directly. Black Monkey Pro disbanded, the game is no longer available for purchase!

*Disclaimer: I don’t own the images used in this review, all CGs and screenshots belong to Black Monkey. Since this game is NSFW there will be some NSFW images after this point. I tried my best to hide some of the naughty bits, but… *shrugs* you’ve been warned!

[Funded]Let’s Show Our Support for the… A Foretold Affair Kickstarter

Edit (9/23): The Kickstarter for this game was successful at meeting its funding goal and the game was successfully Greenlit for Steam. The final funding amount was $2,969 with 111 backers! The game now has a tentative release date of January 2017!

So as usual, I’m a day late and a dollar short with yet another Kickstarter campaign! This time around I’m covering the upcoming steampunk fantasy visual novel developed by GB Patch, A Foretold Affair! I literally came across this Kickstarter campaign a day or two ago and I am ashamed to admit that there are only a handful of days left (the campaign ends Sept 16th).

The Story

Of all of the Kickstarter campaigns I’ve covered so far this year, this quite possibly one of the most unique. I really hope that this project reaches it’s funding goal, because this is a very intriguing story idea.

A Foretold Affair takes place in a world in which society is divided between that of the Abnormals (those with special abilities) and the Normals (those without).  The games protagonist, Buffalo Seer, is Abnormal who’s special ability allows them to see the future. However, even among Abnormals this power is uncommon and those that posses it are advised against using it. Undeterred, Seer decides to peer into their own future and what they find changes their life forever.

Last Week Today: Week End Recap- Aug. 21st to Aug. 27th

Hello Heroes and Travelers, here we are at the end of another week here on Nice Job Breaking It, Hero!As some of you may know I was experiencing some technical difficulties with WordPress. Earlier this week I found myself unable to comment on other bloggers’s posts… So imagine my surprise when I discovered that all of my comments were being sent to you guy’s spam folders! I have since had the problem fixed, but I suggest you all check your spam folders regularly in case others are experiencing the same problem.

hit it

Okay now that I’m done with that, I actually have some good news! We finally heard back from the journal we sent our manuscript to… *drumroll* They want us to fix some things and resubmit… I know it sounds bad, but this is actually really good news and the comments they had were mostly positive. But, since I’m the first author on the paper, I’m responsible for bringing the paper up to snuff. So, what does that mean for you guys and the blog? Well, the paper takes priority, so if I go ghost you know why…

[Review] English Visual Novel-The Shadows That Run Alongside Our Car

The Shadows That Run Alongside Our Car is a newly released Pay-What-You-Want visual novel from Lox Rain (Lorelei, Laiska, and Auro-Cyanide). The game which was created over the span of four days, features two character routes and six endings.

The road is long.

Two strangers sit side by side as night falls over. The car speeds down the open highway.

Without a soul around them, everything seems to slip away. On a journey to no one knows where, all they have is words and time. And that time is dwindling fast.

The shadows are chasing.

Official Description

*Disclaimer: This is a SPOILER FREE review! Also all of the images used in this review belong Lox Rain!

Fangirl Moment: Waiting

TGIF! Here we are again with another Fangirl Friday! This week I’m going to take a break from the usual Fangirl Moment topics and bring you another book post! For today’s post I’ll be covering one of my favorite books, Waiting by Ha Jin!

waiting.jpg

I originally stumbled upon this book years ago on my high school AP reading list. Back then the prospect of a summer reading list was not very appealing, especially for an AP Literature class.

So, I reluctantly braved the thick Atlanta heat for a trip to my local library, with the dreaded AP reading list in hand. After briefly scanning the list again, I mentally noted the most promising titles and began searching the packed shelves. I emerged with four books: One Hundred Years of Solitude,  The Kite Runner, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and Waiting.  I read all of them, except One Hundred Years of Solitude (I fell asleep on that one multiple times), but the book that left the biggest impression on me was Waiting.  Continue reading “Fangirl Moment: Waiting”

If I were a Gym Leader: My Pokemon Gym-Pokemon Tag

2016 marks the 20th Anniversary of Pokemon and since February the Pokemon Company has been pulling out all of the stops to set the world aflame with Pokemon fever. From the announcement of Pokemon Sun and Moon to the release of the Pokemon Go mobile app, this has been a good year for Pokemon fans (old and new)!

So if you guys will remember back to the 7/3-7/9 Last Week Today post’s Blogger Spotlight, I talked about Magnitude Reviews and their post Pokemon Sun and Moon: My Pokemon Gym. In that post they describe their ideal Pokemon Gym in great detail, from the design of the gym to the types of Pokemon they’d use. As a long time Pokemon fan I thought it was a very fun post… but what I didn’t know was that this was a tag post. So imagine my surprise, when I received a Twitter notification letting me know that I’d been tapped to make a post of my own. So, thank you Matt-in-the-Hat for tagging me!! XD You can read Matt’s post, My Pokemon Gym- Pokemon Tag, by clicking the link.

The concept for this post came from youtuber Bird Keeper Toby, who made a video detailing what their Pokemon gym would be like if they were a Pokemon Gym Leader! So check out the video below:

Okay so now that that’s out of the way, here’s what I’d want my own Pokemon Gym to be like if I were a Pokemon Gym Leader!!

Sentimental Trickster- Demo Review

A few weeks ago, Justyna Pustelnik contacted me via Twitter about maybe taking a look at the demo for her upcoming BL visual novel, Sentimental Trickster. However, when I received the request I was wrapping up the 30 Day Anime Challenge (and in need of a break), so I wasn’t able to play the demo right away. But, I was able to talk with Justyna through Twitter and after reviewing the Kickstarter campaign, I was able to bang out a Kickstarter Support post for the game.

I originally planned on getting back to the demo after my Blogging Vacation, but one thing led to another and the demo ended up further down on my To Do List than I would have hoped… forgive me! So, I know this is late, but better late than never… right? So, with the Kickstarter winding down, I figured the time was ripe for a demo review in order to generate more buzz for the game as it nears its final days!

Last Week Today: Week End Recap- Aug. 14th to Aug. 20th

Hello Heroes and Travelers, here we are at the end of another week here on Nice Job Breaking It, Hero! So I’m back on my job application grind and to be honest, I find the whole process dull! I have filled in the same sections over and over and over again, and I am so over it…

over it

Thank goodness for the weekend! I met up with one of my friends from school and we went to Momofuku… and my gosh was the food tasty! Their Brisket Buns were to die for and don’t get me started on their Beef Noodle Soup… After chowing down, I actually went to see Sausage Party… for FREE! Apparently I go to the movies so much that I earned enough points for a free movie ticket! The movie was most definitely not for children and I’ll just leave it at that!

Fangirl Moment: Haikyu!!

TGIF! Here we are again with another Fangirl Friday! This week I’m going back to my otaku roots a bit, by covering an anime series that was suggested to me by the outstanding Katrina Sade over at Grimmgirl.com! If you have been following my twitter, you know without a doubt that I have been seriously obsessing over the sports anime series Haikyu!!

I’m not really a fan of sports anime, in fact I usually go out of my way to avoid them when I can… So when Kat suggested that I watch Haikyu, let’s just say that I wasn’t expecting much. In fact, the first and last sports anime that I every cared enough about to keep up with was Prince of Tennis and that was years ago. But, along came Haikyu and it just blew everything else out of the water!

First Thoughts-Norn9: Var Commons

Before I start this review I have a confession to make, I didn’t buy this game when it first came out… I actually waited until it went on sale during one of PSN’s Flash Sales, so I don’t have any buyers remorse like some folks do. In fact I think I came out like a bandit with this game, because to be honest, Norn9 is worth exactly what I paid for it (and let’s remember that I paid $35 for Alice in the Heart)!

I try to remain neutral when starting a new game, that way I can be as unbiased as possible in my reviews. However, with Norn9: Var Commons that was easier said than done… Since it’s release in the West, Norn9 has been met with some pretty mixed reviews.  On one side of the spectrum are the positive reviews which praise Norn9 for it’s unique plot and interesting characters. Then there are the negative reviews, that point out the various inconsistencies between routes and the gratuitous liberties Aksys took with the translation from Japanese to English. So, I didn’t know what to expect when we in That Game Club decided to pick up Norn9 as our next group gaming experience.

*Disclaimer: All images and screenshots from Norn9 used in this review belong to Idea Factory and Otomate. Please if you are interested in the game, purchase a copy from your local game shop,  Aksys, Amazon.com,  or the PSN Store!*

Forbidden Romance: Dangerous Relationship-Taiga Saeba

I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but I must be a glutton for punishment. If you don’t remember my first foray with D3Publisher’s Dangerous Relationship, click the link….HERE, and relive my rage induced review of Kei Toyonaga’s route. *clears throat* I was growing a bit bored with my Voltage backlog, so I decided to switch gears a bit and check out some of the other mobile otoge on my iPad… Unfortunately, my curiosity got the better of me and I found myself clicking the Dangerous Relationship app once again.

FR Dangerous Relationship

After the tragedy that was Kei’s route, I willingly dove head first back into the fast paced world of celebrity drama with another playthrough of Forbidden Romance: Dangerous Relationship… From the minute I started up the app I was fully prepared to rage quit, as I hesitantly clicked Taiga Saeba’s main story… I mean come on he can’t possibly be as bad as Kei…. Right? *laughs nervously* Right?!

**Disclaimer: I DO NOT own any of the images used in this review, ALL images, screenshots, and characters belong to D3Publisher. Please if you are interested in the game, download the game for free in the App Store or from Google Play and purchase the stories when they are available in your area.**

[Funded]Let’s Show Our Support for Queen’s Crown an English Otome!

Edit (9/12): The Kickstarter for this game was successful at meeting its funding goal and FIVE of the stretch goals. The final funding amount was $11,553 with 302 backers! The game now has a tentative release date of December 2017!

I’m trying something new with these Kickstarter announcements… In the future I plan to publish Kickstarter Support posts the same week that I announce them in Last Week Today post… So, the first Kickstarter campaign to follow this new system is Queen’s Crown, an upcoming Medieval Fantasy romance visual novel! Follow the link below to see the trailer for the game (WordPress won’t let me embed the video for some reason)…

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/490618601/queens-crown/widget/video.html

I absolutely love historical fantasy books and television shows, so when I saw that there was an upcoming visual novel with similar themes I just knew I had to check it out! The Kickstarter claims that the game is inspired notable fantasy powerhouses such as, “A Song of Ice and Fire”  and the “Dragon Age series”… My only question is, Where do I sign up?!”

Last Week Today: Week End Recap- Aug. 7th to Aug. 13th

Hello Heroes and Travelers, here we are at the end of another week here on Nice Job Breaking It, Hero! As most of you already know, August 11th was my 1 Year Blogiversary!! I can’t believe it’s been a full year since I started my blogging journey with you all and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me in the future! So, THANK YOU all for sticking it out with me while I got the hang of this blogging thing!

yeah

Oh, yeah… I was so caught up in the afterglow of my 1 Year Blogiversary, that I almost forgot to mention this, but I have glasses now! My eyesight has been kind of shaky for a little while now, nothing serious, just a bit fuzzy when I read to much. So, I went in for an eye exam and they prescribed reading glasses…

What do you think? Do they suit me?

Fangirl Moment: The Little Prince

TGIF! Here we are again with another Fangirl Friday! This week I’m going to take a break from the usual Fangirl Moment topics and bring you yet another film! Today’s post is all about the 2015 animated film adaptation of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s  acclaimed novella, The Little Prince.

The Little Prince  tells the tale of a young boy who leaves his home on a small asteroid in space, for a journey that takes him to the far reaches of the galaxy. Through his travels the boy sees many strange sights and meets a host of characters before eventually winding up on Earth where he meets a stranded pilot in the Sahara Desert. Despite being styled as a children’s book, The Little Prince contains philosophical themes on love, loss, and human nature.

Nice Job Breaking It, Hero is 1 Years Old Today!!

Hello Heroes and Travelers, I have a huge announcement to make… Nice Job Breaking It, Hero is 1 years old today!

celebrate pokemon.gif

It was one year ago today that I started Nice Job Breaking It, Hero! When I started this blog, I was in my final year of graduate school writing my umpteenth infectious disease research paper…

I’m finishing up my final year of my Masters in Global Health, which means I do a lot of research writing. Mostly about infectious disease, health policy, advocacy, and other public health stuff. Don’t get me wrong I love the health field, especially mental health in developing countries, but sometimes you just need a break! So I started this blog as a way to appease my inner procrastinator. I often get really distracted when I have assignments, the bigger the paper the worse it is, so I came up with a brilliant plan! The idea was that as long as I was going to procrastinate on that important research proposal, I might as well do something semi-productive….I mean procrastinating is fine as long as I’m writing about something.

(Excerpt from my Blogger Recognition post)

I started this blog on a whim, so I never imagined that one year later, not only would I still be writing posts for this blog, but that my little exercise in procrastination would have grown so much! If you have been with me since the beginning, you know that Nice Job Breaking It, Hero looks nothing like it did back then… not even close… To be honest this blog was all over the place back then, there was no rhyme or reason, I just posted what I wanted when I wanted. But, I stuck with it and eventually it became the controlled chaos it is today and I couldn’t be more proud of it! But, this isn’t the end, far from it… both me and the blog have more growing to do and I can’t wait to see where this blogging journey takes me in the future!

My Lover is the Silent Swordsman of the Shinsengumi- Era of Samurai: Code of Love- Hajime Saito

So now that the Fans’ Choice Awards are over, Voltage has started releasing stories again and first up is the one character I have been looking forward to the most: Hajime Saito! I have been patiently awaiting this silent swordsman since the day this game was announced… I love Hajime Saito. I’m going to say something that is going to piss off the Soji Okita fans…*inhales deeply* Hajime Saito is my favorite member of the Shinsengumi!

I went into this story expecting Voltage to bring me the moon on a string and I got that and more. I didn’t think anything could be more heartbreakingly tragic than Soji Okita’s route, but I was mistaken. Hajime Saito was definitely worth the wait!

**Disclaimer: I DO NOT own any of the images used in this review, ALL images, screenshots, and characters belong to Voltage Inc. Please if you are interested in the game, download the game for free in the App Store or from Google Play and purchase the stories when they are available in your area.**

My Lover is a Mischievous God: Star Crossed Myth-Ichthys Review

I have a confession to make… I was never interested in Ichthys, nor did I have any intention of purchasing his route. Happy-go-lucky, prankster types aren’t my favorite characters, in fact I would have gone on ignoring this route, had it not gone on sale during the last Voltage Super Sale…

IMG_2706

But, after playing through Ichthys’s Main Story, I’m glad I purchased this route and gave this silly guy a chance. Ichthys is the god of Pisces, and the god that just doesn’t know when to quit. Despite being harmless his jokes and pranks tend to incur the ire of those around him, especially his bosses Scorpio and Zyglavis. But, there is more to his pranks than just having a good time, there’s something sad about this fun loving god.

**Disclaimer: I DO NOT own any of the images used in this review, ALL images, screenshots, and characters belong to Voltage Inc. Please if you are interested in the game, download the game for free in the App Store or from Google Play and purchase the stories when they are available in your area.**

[Full Game Review] English Otome-C14 Dating

C14 Dating is the newest title from English game developer, Winter Wolves, the folks behind the English otome games, Always Remember MeThe Flowershop series, and Nicole.

I am a huge fan of Winter Wolves, so when they released C14 Dating back in March, I was ready with money in hand! However, I was finishing up my final semester of grad school, so I wasn’t able to play the game until just recently… But this game was definitely worth the wait! I’ve played almost all of Winter Wolves’s previous dating sim/visual novels and I can say with some certainty that C14 Dating is one of the best the developer has to offer.

Last Week Today: Week End Recap-Jul. 31st to Aug. 6th

Hello Heroes and Travelers, here we are at the end of another week here on Nice Job Breaking It, Hero! I am computerless right now… The charger for my laptop finally decided to kick the bucket and my computer battery is dead. So, that means I can’t really post until I can get a replacement charger. Before you suggest Best Buy… I went there they don’t have any that work with my Samsung series 5 laptop.

tumblr_mdbig7g5zN1ry8a5uo1_500

I had to borrow my BF’s laptop to write this post and he has a Mac so I won’t make a habit of borrowing his laptop too often. On a slightly more positive note, I’ve been exploring DC way more than I have in the past! I walked around Georgetown, the Zoo, and the capital all in the name of Pokemon and to a lesser degree for exercise.

PokeNews: Arceus Distribution

Here we are again with another PokeNews report! We are now seven months into the Pokemon 20th Anniversary Legendary Pokemon Release Event! We’ve seen a host of Pokemon announcements and goodies from Nintendo since February, from the announcement of Moon and Sun to the release of Pokken Tournament! We’ve got six legendary Pokemon under our belts already, but it’s time to push forward with the Pokemon god Arceus and August’s  release!

arceus.gif

Arceus, the Alpha Pokemon, also known as the “Original One” is said to be the creator of the entire Pokemon universe and god in its own right. Despite being a normal type, its ability Multitype, when coupled with any one of the Plate items allows Arceus to change its type at will. It is the leader of the fourth generation lake guardians and the creation trio, and thought to be the first Pokemon (which contradicts the Mew myth).
