Woohoo, this is the halfway mark!! When I first saw this prompt the first thing I thought was, Oh crap, welp that was quick! I thought I’d blown the whole challenge, I had no idea what the heck I was going to write about. Usually when I watch anime I watch the human characters, I don’t really pay attention to the animal companions… that is unless you count Pokemon, which I feel like is cheating. But then, I did some thinking and then it hit me!
I don’t know whether to consider this character a summoning or a sidekick, he’s probably both. He’s a magical guardian with a bit of a sweet tooth, but don’t call him cute! With his small body it’s easy to underestimate his true potential, and let me tell you it’s huge! My pick for my favorite animal sidekick/pet or summoning from any anime is…
Sakura’s magical protector/friend, Kero from magical girl anime, Cardcaptor Sakura. It seems like every magical girl anime series has a magical animal companion, well Cardcaptor Sakura is no different. Years before the start of the series, Kero was tasked by the powerful wizard Clow Reed to be the guardian of the Clow Cards.
When Clow Reed died, Kero set out to find the new master of the Clow Card, stumbling upon Sakura Kinomoto. After selecting her as Clow Reed’s successor, Kero takes her under his wing and teaches her ins and outs of magic along with the secrets of the Clow Cards. But, Kero is much more than just a teacher, he becomes a friend and confidant to Sakura as she tries to balance her normal life with her duty as the new master of the Clow Cards.
Kero is a bit selfish, but when it counts he is always willing to help a friend in need, especially when there’s food involved. Kero is a bit of a chubby bunny, despite being so small he is capable of eating large amounts of food without much trouble (which often serves as a source of comic relief). For most of the series Kero is in his false form, often posing as a cute stuffed animal. But, when Sakura obtains the Firey and Light Clow Cards, Kero is able to access his true form, that of a large winged lion/cat.

Aww, I love Kero, especially the first time he appears and says, “Konni-ni-chi wa!” He’s a little less adorable with his surfer accent in the English dub. He’s still pretty great though.
My favorite sidekick is Pikachu! It’s an obvious answer, but I grew up enjoying Pikachu’s antics. I’ve also amassed a collection of Pikachu plushies over the years, so I can safely say that I love the little guy!
My fav pet if he is a pet is Kon from bleach.
